a quick google search brings up nothing about the recall for the R6s. However, it seems a number of other yamahas were recalled in 2001 for transmission problems.
best off sending pm to the chap who made the post originally about the stamp.
apart from that theres not much you can do except look after it and hope it doesnt happen ____________________ Bandit 600 |

some r6's were recalled and given a beefier detent spring. The detent spring is a 50p spring (take off a cover, swap a spring and replace the cover. Takes 5 mins to do and all you need to do is buy a spring, and a gasket-you wont lose any oil)
Its not really a proper fix, its like haveing a terminal shoulder problem, yamaha have basically given you a bulky arm, but they didnt fix the shoulder and its probably only a fix for 0.5% of bikes.
2 different symptoms for a detent spring brake or 2nd gear gone. Both are prone to going on R6's.
If you detent spring snaps, it wont engage 2nd at all. This happened on my bike.
Of 2nd gear has gone it will slip under hard acceleration, as if the chain is slipping off te sprocket or your back wheels hitting mud and spinning up. This also happened on my bike
The whole gear box is generally crud on 99-02 r6's and most of them go at about 15k miles (both parts broke on mine) a 100% fix is to stick an 03-05 box in. This involves takeing your engine out of the bike, spliting the crankcase and replaceing the box. Its not an easy job, infact its about the hardest, easiest to fuck up job you can possibly do. Its a 200 quid fix if you can do it yourself but its basically an engine rebuild.
my engine is currently on the work bench and im splitting it on saturday, my 03 box should be comeing mid next week, along with big end shell bearings etc. (im doing an engine rebuild while its appart) i think my selector forks are bent to buggery, i can take a few pictures if anyones interested?
badically 2nd gear wheelies do it, and hard acceleration in 2nd, voilent upchanges will bugger it. the fix yamha did isnt a bad thing, but it wont save your box if you ride it hard. at the end of the day its a problem with the bike, if you ride the bike hard be prepared to fork out for a box. ____________________ follow my racing season

Yeah i read about the spring thing too, if it breaks it breaks, i'm not going to ride it being cautious all the time or there's no point me having it, i'd rather it fuck up and know i had some good times on it rather than being careful all the time.
if it goes it goes, it can be sorted, thanks for the info ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark
