Hi all,I just thought i'd share my story with you about buying bike's on ebay.

it's not something ive done before and I can honestly say I wont be doing it again. After getting my tax rebate in april I decided to look for a better bike to replace my tired an worn out honda cb125tdc.

On the 1st of april (of all the days) this year my bid won on a 1990 kawasaki AR125.The description was excellent, new tyre's fitted, excellent engine etc etc.The bike looked immaculate in the pic's.The only bad thing was that the owner had took the exhaust off (this should have set bells ringing) as it had split.pretty common on these models apparently. As I couldnt hear the engine running due to exhaust,I asked the bloke if he could gaurantee me that the engine was infact a good runner,as I didnt want to replace my knackerd bike with another knackerd bike.everytime he convinced me it was sound,so,I made my bid and won.I arranged with a friend to go get it in a trailer 180 miles away, plus stopping off at a breakers to pick up an exhaust.

When we got to the bike, sure,it looked mint but the tyres wasnt new, sure they had loads of tread but they had been on a while as they was starting to perish between the tread.rear was almost bold down the centre.also, the locking flap off the back was missing. It was a long journey and i wasnt gonna leave it there just because of these details.

we got the bike back to leicester to fit exhaust,I was hoping it was going to be ok on the 55 mile trip back to mine from my mates.exhaust fitted and i started her up.sure enuff my worst nightmare had just begun. The engine had no power, infact,it was propper fucked.how it got me back the 55 miles i'll never know. The main bearings had shot, after taking off the casings, there was a crack going across the bearing boss that holds the crank.you could wobble the crank about 5 mm in any direction.I'd been well and trully done.

I rang the bloke and told him he'd stitched me up,his reply was that he didnt know off any problems with the bike, and,a garage had told him everything was ok with it.he also said if he had knowingly sold me a knackerd bike then why would he have offerd to help fit an exhaust?....the fucking no good wanker!

anyway.........

after posting pic's of the damage,he offerd to pay me a sum of £60 that I wanted to get it fixed.I'm still waiting to this day! I didnt know what my 'buyers rights' are on ebay about getting money back and reporting bad descriptions and wot not.I wish I'd have read through everything now.If you want good advice, never buy something you cant hear running,no matter how convincing the deal sounds.Ive learnt the hard and stupid way!

The bike's sorted now,I got another engine and made one up out of the 2.so far Ive done 300 miles with no probs at all.Ive also treated her to a new micron exhaust and named her.....natasha.yes she's got a name,am I the only one that gets emotionally attached? I dont care now about the shit Ive gone through with the deal, the smiles per mile as been well and trully worth it!

I actually think that you were lucky to find an AR125 that was in as good a condition as that to be honest. They aren't the most reliable of bikes really.

You should have looked for an NS/NSR or RG125 or perhaps a TZR.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

call him again remind him that you have not recived payment. If not arrived in 10 days you are going to small calims court. Only cost you £30, but should be the kick he needs to pay you the £60.

Ebay do have systems in place for this. You may be out of time to act now, but in future in your user area there is a Dispute Console link at the bottom on the left. Should have all the info you need in there.
I hope you left some nice feedback explaining the state of the bike.... Shocked

Sounds like you got stitched up a bit, but glad to hear its sorted. People are so much more likely to bullshit on an ebay description than if they were describing it to you face to face.

On the subject of negative feedback; there are more effective messages you can leave on there to get your own back...

Negative feedback requires a special touch to make the seller of an item to get irate. That is all that happens when you make negative feedback. So when you utilize your line of text, make it count.

Quote:

"ITEM BROKEN UPON ARRIVAL DUE TO POOR PACKAGING" is an honest description, but does it really drive home the point? I suggest "FOUND HYPODERMIC NEEDLE WITH ODD SUBSTANCE INSIDE PACKAGE; I NOTIFIED POLICE".

Sounds like you were just a bit too naive about what people are like on eBay, you've gotta look before you buy.

Glad you got it working now anyways Thumbs Up
