after trashing myself on the bandit and spending a lot of time and pain and 2 opps in the hospital i decided its time to get back on a bike.bandit got fixed and sold about the same time.
last year i bought a salvage r1 as a project and spent the year getting it back to roadworthy.partly for something to do as my injury stopped me from doing the car stuff and the bike stuff i liked.
partly as a make me get back to health because the bike would be ready before i was.
anyway this week has seen me pay for insurance, sort out the v5(salvage bike)mot it and tax it.
so no excuse for not taking it out.
after 30 mins on the bike i have brush handles for arms(cant steer)i have to look at the switches to opperate them,i cant change gear smoothly(up or down)
clutch is an on/off switch.
im a low speed wobbler,i keep putting my feet down.
i am gripping the bars like a grippy thing.
im looking at where im going to crash and not where i want to go.
i cant lean the bike to turn so im going super slow but still doing bends like corners.
going to wait till sunday and spend the afternoon on tesco's carpark learning how to ride slow again.
and the worst part is that i know the reason for my piss poor riding is all in my head after a crash.
i know it and im telling myself i know it.
but as soon as i sit on the bike my head says "you are going to crash"and then my riding goes all to cock.

dont try to rush things Wink . like you said its probably all in your head and could take a wee while to get rid of, all i could advise is to take things at your own pace and soon it will all come back to you Thumbs Up

Try taking a bit of training, that will probably give you your confidence back, something like this that does advanced/refresher courses

Also, you are on an R1. I mean, I know you used to ride powerful bikes, but it's not exactly forgiving after a 2 year hiatus is it?

Get rid of the R1 and buy something easier and more confidence inspiring.

Understand your point but having after crash confidence issues will affect anyone on any bike, it's no good getting rid of a bike you've spent months of time, effort and money into to find you've got the same problem on something else.
Just keep at it mate, it will all feel wrong to start off with you just need to take your riding one step at a time and it will slowly start coming back.

Get a mate with with a dry ice machine and the Days of Thunder soundtrack, and ride through, once at the other side of the cloud, laugh, and say "I'm outta here!"

It has to work, I saw it at the piktoors. Thumbs Up

No thats a self defeating argument. If I had a shiney bike that I really loved that was super powerful and I'd spent ages fixing it up and I found that I'd lost confidence, I'd be more scared of crashing that than some cheap 600 (or smaller) bike.

The reason I know is because I am in that situation at the moment.

My advice would just be to get out there and keep riding, it will come back to you eventually.

You coud buy a cheap bike that you wouldn't mind crashing to practice on but it could only take 100 miles and then you're ready.

Plan a nice long route for a ride with a few roads that you know you won't have to stop on (Maybe motorway but a bit boring) and just go for it. You'll get back with a smile on your face from the progress you have made.

I got a full power CBr600 RR R-7 after just over a year out of riding and my last bike was a restricted SV650S.

I too can describe almost exactley the same symptoms as your getting its a lack of confidance and im sure your accident wont be helping matters.

The nubness will wear out by the time the new tiers are scrubbed in properly but to get your full skill set back it will take quite a few miles and hours, maybe for your own confidance and safety fork out for refresher training. And hopefully you will bounce back better then before!

love the days of thunder reference.
managed to find a couple of hours today to soldier on.
spent a good 30 mins in the yard at work doing u turns and figure 8's at 5 mph i found that helped alot my feet are now staying on the pegs at low speed.
then went out on the roads and did about 80 miles.
it turns out that my arms do bend and when they are relaxed i can actually corner a bit.still on foot wide chicken strips but it feels better.
so im a bit happier.

I don't lean too much into corners on my RX-S purely because the tyres are thin and I don't trust them. On my scooter it's different because it's got nice chunky tyres which I have confidence in.

Just because you feel that way about your bike doesn't mean anyone else does, I've unfortunately had experience of bike crashes so I also know the feelings and thoughts that pass through your head. As the OP quite rightly suggests all his inconfidence and nerves are all in his head and nothing to do with the bike.
Although buying a different bike might be the only option for you for anyone else it would be a waste of time and money when all is needed is to put a few miles in and get used to the new machine. Glad to hear it's going well though, a few more good rides in sunny weather and you'll be back on the pace again Smile Good luck and hope it works out.

i can imagine it must be a head fook to start with but like others said just keep battling on and take it easy. plan some rides and enjoy it rather than trying to get crazy lean angles at the first corners Smile

i have days where i have a complete confidence crisis for no reason other than small slide that gets the old ticker going.

then there are days when everything gels and you have the confidence to lean into corners without a worry.

I totally know where you are coming from.
I was really confident and raring to go after my accident (bike written-off so on a hire bike=CG). It was only when I actually sat on the bike and about to hit the road when the nerves started. The first ride back I kept putting my foot down to stop, was completely scared to filter and i've never gripped the handle bars so tightly. I got home and my fingers were red from gripping and was starting to ache!!
I think you just have to power through it slowly and build the confidence up. I know if I hesitated....I would eventually just cease riding altogether. I know a guy who had an accident on the same road as me about 3 months ago....no injuries but he hasn't got back on the bike at all.... Sad

good luck
