A is a soft white chalk like dirt that won't budge. You can't really make this out on the picture, but the image shows it's location .i.e. those thin slats.
B is a purple stain that engine degreaser and polish won't shift.

Any ideas?

(Also how do I inbed images?)

Your pic aint brilliant but
sounds like grease i think, have some on the bottom of my shock its like a dry powder.

B if its a purpleish mark on your downpipes could be flame burnt effect when it gets hot and makes marks in it like this https://www.neotuning.com/images/planet/echapp-flameburnt1.jpg

!. Sounds like salt (but not visible in the pic). You'd need to scrub/wire brush this off before respraying.

2. Discolouration due to the heat of the exhaust. This is quite normal and I doubt this would be removable (it'll just come back anyway).

As above really, the blue on the exhaust is discolouration caused by heat.

The white stuff is corrosion and furing from road salt. Usu a wire brush to get rid of the salt corrosion.

No, just the area where you scrub away at the oxidisation. You can get VHT paint in silver. Wouldn't want to leave that more exposed to the elements.

It's a little too light though, the vht paint I've bought.

what should I do?

Spray paint the engine fins........

I wouldn't bother, could make their cooling effect less effective. Something like autosol should remove it, with some elbow grease.
Or simply stop looking at the engine, look down the road and ride Laughing

It wont affect the cooling, otherwise my CG would have blown up by now, that thing must have over 30 coats of VHT black paint on it.

Cheers

Without sounding daft: maybe take it back and find some which is a better colour match?

Might be tricky getting between the cooling fins, and still leaves the (further) exposed finish more open to further corrosion.

See if you can find some engine laquer
i think thats what its called.

Spray it gives a clear coating, so dont need to repaint and as its a coating will stop corrosion from carrying on.

The white stuff as already said is oxidisation. Clean it off with a decent solvent and a toothbrush. Worse case scenario I find WD40 will take it off if nothing else to hand.

Blue, no worries, perfectly normal (although I am worried at the previous post who wants one done properly Shocked Laughing )

Thin slats? did anyone else just have a WTF?? moment?

As for cleanming the Ox off: brillo pads, used wet.

& do NOT spray the fucking engine with ANY kind of clearcoat.. because as soon as it gets chipped (& it will) you wil have a bunch of Ox under the clearcoat which looks even worse. Wink

You dont 'get it done properly'.

Blue flame cans have a blue tint to them, this is how they are made, and yes they look good, but blueing on the headers is not something you can 'get done', it appears if you ride enough, oh and it looks darn awesome if you thrash the bike a lot, as you get a deeper blue that goes further down the downpipes.

Cheers

I think its more a case of how much throttle can you really give it?

Ive tested the redline once or twice, mostly when setting up for a big backfire.

how does the tinting work with heat. I heard somewhere that if you dip it in some sort of oil when red hot it makes it stay a deep blue colour.
