Hey everyone,

After my recent bike holiday abroad I'm still itching for more. I've set my sights on America as I have some friends there that I haven't seen for many years and to have a go at riding in the US.

I would love to ship my own bike over there but its far too much hassle and expensive for what will be a 2 week jolly. So as far as I can see my options are:

Arrow Hire a bike (seems to be expensive and they impose a lot of conditions)
Arrow Do what Top Gear did and buy my own motorbike and get my friends to sell it. However if I buy one I don't know what would be involved in the way of paperwork and no fixed address.

I'm thinking (for the moment) of starting in Florida and working my way up to Tennessee to see my friends. This would hopefully happen sometime next year around May. I know that some Americans browse these forums so can you or anyone else provide some advise, routes, do's an dont's and more importantly costs.

Cheers for reading. Thumbs Up

If you get a small bike (Sportster for example) and just do a few days it is not too expensive. Go for it! Thumbs Up

Thanks for the link it was a good read, not jealous at all! Laughing Shame the pictures aren't there any more. I've emailed my friends in Tennessee to see if they have any ideas. I have been recommended some routes from other forums. Looks like this idea may happen after all.

Its a good idea but I would love to travel all the way to Tennessee and not be tied to bringing the bike back by a certain date and place. However it may end up coming down to doing that in the end.

Well the bike hire company I used had quite a few locations and I think you could do 1-way hires (slightly more expensive), so don't rule it out.

Old Thread Alert!
