I was at the dealer's shop and was talking to the mechanic there and I asked him if it would be worth changing the reeds for some carbon fibre ones and he told me its not really worth doing because you cant see the part anyway and it may give you a little bit more speed but not much. (He went on to say)
The only thing you should by to make the bike go a bit better is to get an new exhaust system to make the bike breath easer.
So then I asked him a bought de restricting the bike he told me you could drill the exhaust to make it breath a lot better but then he told me not to take out the intake plate thing because it could damage the engine.
So I just wanted to get some more info on this,
Thanks all.

mine are getting sent through to me as soon as they're in stock (from M&P)
it's unlikely to give you any more top-end, cos the bike'll only run to about 95 before redlining. it'll prob get you there quicker and it'll definitly help the bike run smoother and easier in the lower revs.
forget the new exhaust system, it won't do much. in some cases that standard exhaust is better, once de-restricted. the bike is designed to run at full power, so taking the plate out won't damage anything.
i'm not gonna take the intake plate out cos i don't wanna reduce my economy even more. mine hits 90-95 on the flat anyway so i'm happy.
hope this helps

Hi
Carbon reeds will give you a tiny bit more power, but skipping breakfast would lighten you enough to make more difference to performance.
As to the restrictor plate, he is probably worried about jetting. The bike should run fine without the plate, but Honda may well have jetted the bike differently for those with the plate (maybe only some years), and if so you could run lean and seize the engine.
All the best

Reeds such as Boyson Reed valves are designed to improve throttle response not to add top speed so dont expect dramatic changes.
