Hi all after a period of about 8 years I'm looking to get a new(ish) bike. My last 3 bikes were actually scooters but haven't owned any kind of 2 wheeled machinery for 4 years. Haven't a great deal of cash at the moment but looking to spend around £2500. I've been looking at the new shape aprilia RS 125s & the new yamaha YZF 125. Would this be a good reintroduction? I'm a bit out of practice & don't trust myself on anything too large for the time being. I've owned 3 RSs previously & really enjoyed them. I have held a full license since 1994. Cheers. Thumbs Up

If your looking at getting back into biking for good then i wouldn't really go out and spend 2500 on a smaller bike. I would buy a cheap one so you can get used to the gears and get the feel of it again and then look at something better with the remainder of your money.

Thumbs Up

I'd say go spend 1500 ish on a good second hand bike like the SV650 and spend a couple of hundred with a local instructor on a re-introduction course to get you comfortable and back up to speed. Then anything that is left over, use on some decint kit and a weeks bike tour round the UK.

As above, just something like a CBR600F, hornet, bandit etc. etc. for around 1.5k and some training. I'm sure most training schools will offer refresher training.

It may be a good idea to do the refresher training on the training school's bike purely so you don't have to pay for it if you make a silly mistake. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies. I think at the moment it's not just a case of buying a bike it's the running costs as well as I need to keep my car.

Nice but not with 2.5k & that sort of bike is way above my limits. I would like a VFR800 Fi (pre Vtec one) but like I say it's the running costs as well which make me think a small sports bike would be a good idea . Cheers! Thumbs Up

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

I was in your position about a year ago and am very happy with the SV650S I picked up for £2.7k

I believe they restrict very well as well if you need to.
