Have recently been looking at an old 1970s Yamaha DT125 that needs restoration, but being fairly inexperienced in the bike scene, need a bit of info before i commit to this. (Have done a lot of car resto's but used to own a Yamaha FS1E back in the day)

First question, were all DT125's registered road bikes or were some strictly off road? The reason i ask, is the one i have been offered has been stripped of all road accessories and number plates and has been used as a field bike.
If i wanted to obtain a V5 for it, how difficult would this be with it being stripped of number plates and keys e.t.c?
i.e. is there a chassis number on the frame or something that could be used to get the registration?

Any info on this would be very much appreciated, i like a challenge!

Cheers!

Tom

Look for a plate on or near the headstock, if there isnt one (or a number stamped into the headstock) then chances are its been stripped.

Cheers
John

This could be real difficult............if it comes up as having been stolen some time back you will lose it ,if not then its just a ball ache to get it legit but doable,if no numbers on then your up shite creek Neutral bits are available but at a premium, make a list before you buy get prices ,pick your self up then dont bother Laughing

Cheers for the info everyone.
Been looking for parts but like you say, they are very scarce.
Only way would be to build it as a bit of a custom and make up my own loom and source other lights and clocks (obviously as similar as possible). Wouldn't be a restoration as such, but i just really like the 70s style.

If the chassis number is still present, isn't it just a case of applying for a new V5 and they will issue a reg?

Like i say, new to bikes so please excuse any dumb presumptions.

Cheers!

Taken on board. Will have to have a think about it.
Enjoy working with cars so thought i'd have a go at a bike, then was offered this for £70 so thought i might have a go but gather a bit of info first.

Thanks again
