What does a clutch spring do on a 50cc moped? Could it effect the performance of a ped?

Hmmm

Auto-can make the clutch bite higher up in the rpm with stiffer springs, lower down in the rpm with looser springs. this is due to the clutch relying on centrifugal force to operate.

Manual-Apply pressure and hold the clutch plates together when the clutch is engaged, to dis-engage you are compressing the springs and freeing up the plates.
