I've just got a 1990 Honda CG as my first bike, I have to keep the revs right up for it run in neutral

As soon as I let go, the engine cuts out.. I've tried it on different levels of choke and tried holding the revs for a good 30 seconds. I don't really know what Im doing as im new to all of this.

Any advice?

Has it always done it since you've owned it or just recently?

There should be an idle screw on the carb that will allow you to adjust the tickover speed. I have no idea where it is but someone will.

hi

(hopefully virus will pass thru and tell you properly - till then)

on the right hand side of the bike, under the tank is the carb, and there is a small screw with a spring which is the idle screw.

start the bike, and then turn it accordingly to either up or down the revs.

you dont wanna go too high, mine idles around 1500 and is fine a haynes manual will tell you what it should be

hope that helps

As boredatwork has said, The idle screw is a flat headed screw, right in the middle of the right hand side of the carb, turn it clockwise until it idles a bit higher.

Get the engine warm (as it will idle lower when cold unless you use the choke) then turn the idle up to 2.5k, then you can turn it down slowly up until the point were it idles at a fairly low rate (1k/1.5k) without cutting out.

You are aware of how to use the choke arent you?

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.
