 |
|
Bike: 1990 Yamaha XJ600
Hi guys
My bike went to the mechanic and it turned out the CDI had blew. You can get them off ebay for about £25, or this guy in new zealand makes his own for about £80, or yamaha offered to sell me a new one for £386.
So anyway, hopefully going to go the ebay route but which CDIs are compatible with which bikes? Is it very specific? The mechanic said he got it working with a CDI off another bike but said he couldn't find a replacement so I'd have to get one of the internet and get back to him.
Just looking here:
eBay search listings
I am completely oblivious to what works and what doesn't so any pointers would be extremely useful. I'm guessing if the bikes aren't too different one for the xj900 will work? It doesn't have to fit perfectly as it can be retrofitted to the bike, it's the internals that matter. Also I've been told it's a 4 block and a 6 block which I'm clueless about but I'm assuming from the pictures on ebay it refers to the size of the plugs?
Any help at all will be much appreciated and if anyone finds me a suitable replacement I'll happily buy them a drink
Thanks guys

I bought one - it was just £10 so not the end of the world. But it's for the XJ600 s (aka diversion, 92 onwards whereas pre diversion was 84 - 91) so got to hope that it works. If not Electrex will repair for £100 but I might just sell for spares or repairs
I'm feeling really down today about it all, breaking my heart something so minor could ruin my bike dream! |

Looking for replacements now in case it turns out this CDI doesn't work
It's 'supposed' to be less than 33bhp but I might just lie on the insurance. Bad idea? |

The earlier XJ600 was a completely different bike and in a higher state of tune than the Diversion. It MIGHT work, but I wouldn't count on it, in fact I'm confident it won't even plug in. If it does, you might find you've lost a bit of performance. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yep I had a XJ1100, very rare bike. I did 7k miles on it in abput 8 months then the TCI packed up giving sparks to 2 cylinders (caused by a loose spark plug cap). I searched all over the world for a replacement then ended-up scrapping the bike. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
