Hi all,

Interested in this bike:

https://img527.imageshack.us/img527/1653/husabergwn2.jpg

I'm assuming it's the FE model. Can anyone give me any spec on this (power output etc.) and whether or not it needs rebuilding regularly? I assume it will need rebuilds, but also a rough estimate on cost if possible. Looking for something I can use to serve my restriction, and this is cheap, and with cheap insurance too.

Cheers.

Maitenance is probably a minor service every ten hours 'light' use. This will be an oil and filter change.
Bigger services every 30 and 60 hours use.

Not at all suitable for an everyday bike really.
Not going to be a cheap biike to run.

Will be good fun off road, however.

Not sure on power specs, most people that buy them probably won't be so bothered as off road peak power doesn't make so much difference.

For information: Husaberg are owned by KTM, but with a lot fewer dealers and I don't think they share (m)any common parts.

As G says, they need a lot of looking after, and don't appreciate lots of road use.

Technical information etc. can probably be found on their web site: www.husaberg.co.uk

Ah bugger! Looked to be just what I was looking for too - 2000 reg, 4000 miles use, and less than £1500 with less than £500 fully comp. Thanks for the replies. Wouldn't mind a Duke II, but the prices are a bit steep for what I want to pay.

Can you suggest some cheaper alternatives Question I wouldn't mind getting a bike with interchangable wheels (off road and SM), and something that doesn't require a rebuild every other weekend Embarassed

Don't get us wrong - they don't need a re-build, just an oil change. It's 2-strokes that need a re-build every other weekend Wink

The Dukes are good 'bikes, but they are a bit more expensive. KTMs seem to hold their values (which as an owner, is nice).

If you're after a trail-style 'bike then your options are a bit limited. Not to long ago there were a lot of them about, but increasingly they're being replaced with more competition-focused machines like the Husaberg.

The Suzuki DR-Z400S is a good little 'bike - and pretty bomb-proof if looked after. There's also a DR-Z400SM, which is the supermoto version. Servicing is similar to that of most road 'bikes.

Most "trail bikes" these days aren't - e.g. the Suzuki V-Strom (the 650 version has an excellent reputation as a road 'bike), Yamaha TDM, Ducati Multistrada etc.. They all have the look, but I wouldn't take them off road.

Don't ignore the Honda Transalp, and there's the Kawasaki Versys too. The Honda is perhaps more at home off road than the Kwak.

Hope that helps Smile

Thanks again for your reply. I thought the Husaberg would be like the WR's of Yamaha - Don't they need rebuilds now and again, or is that urban myth?

On road would more than likely be where I spend most of my time, so this would obviously be my main priority. I would like to venture off road now and again though.

I'm taken with the Duke's though - I know there's very little off road potential, but I'd love one, even if only for a short while. My problem is insurance really, I'm only 20, so I will be looking for cheapest insurance possible, as we've a house to run too.

Out of curiousity, do you know how much servicing for the Duke's are, ball park figure? I don't want to indulge in one, to find the servicing costs an arm and a leg.

Thanks again.

The question is how comfortable you are with servicing it yourself. A minor service is fairly easy; a major one less so as you need to do valve clearances and other more complicated jobs.

The early LC4 engines had a bit of a poor reputation for reliability, but later ones are a lot more reliable.

If you're worried about the cost of servicing, give your local KTM dealer a call and ask them what they charge. It should be similar to other makes of 'bike.

I have a 2000 fe 400e. Its been broke down for about 2 years and can't find anyone to work on it. I live in southern Indiana so if you buy it make sure you know of a shop that will work on it if you have trouble. When its runs its a great bike, more power than the jap bikes, great suspension but very touchy. Anyone who might know of a place I could get it worked on please send me a reply.

I know of plenty of places in the UK, but not so sure about the US, I'm afraid.
Have you tried asking on www.husaberg.org ?
