Had an issue on my last ride out, the bike didn't want to start.
Full lights etc but just ...well nothing on hitting the starter switch.

Did the usual fiddle with the side stand thinking it was the switch on that and luckily she kicked to life.

Anyway stuck the bike in the shed when I got it home and thought .....well you know what I though when ya bike shits ya.

So tonight I figured I'm going out to sort it.

Naturally thinking the side stand switch was at issue, I started there.
All seems well sealed and once opened clean as a whistle.
I jumpered the wires there and still no go.

Attempting the usual suspects led me next to the kill switch.
Not much fun pulling it off and even less fun getting the bastard back together again once I had ruled that out too.

Next I went to the clutch switch, pulled it off and jumpered it with a short wire and low and behold away she went.
Checked all the connections after a few offs and ons to make sure it was where the problem was and with the clutch in away she went once connected up again.

Now this is where it gets weird.

It will only start with the side stand up and the clutch in.

Now scratching my head I couldn't figure if this was always the way I had done it.
A few moments pass.
I started it in said fashion in neutral then flip the side stand down...................ah bugger it cuts out.

So while I'm glad to have figured out the trick to starting the bastard up now, it's going to shit me to not be able to warm the bike up on the stand as per normal.

So the question is, what the &^%* is the problem. It must have something to do with not sensing neutral Confused

So what is it that says it's in neutral? is it a switch somewhere and if so where is it located?

I'm figuring I'm not going to like the answer.

Please oh please let it be somewhere I can get to and fix/swap out.

Yes I know I could just remove the stand switch but I'd much prefer it all to be as it should be. Bikes only 3 years old and I'd like to keep it the way it should be.

Ok simple answer. Neutral sensor seems to be dodgey.

it's external but to pull the sensor means draining the oil.

So for now the side stand switch is set to the up position and has been disconnected from the side stand so does not move when the stand does.

Fingers crossed it's a dirty contact and not the sensor itself.

Very Happy
