I saw this on another forum somewhere. they have now gone into Administration.

shame really, but they just never seemed to cut it with the likes of Yoshimura, racefit etc.

they never seemed to develop new styles much at all, their latest example looked like some kind of elephants trunk.

Shame really cos when i fitted a carbon fibre micron to the FZR it made a bit more power lower down an made a good bit of difference, hope they pull through.

Shame really. Micron are a part of biking's more modern history. I mean what self respecting RD350LC owner wouldn't have fitted a Micron pipe to his bike in the late seventies/early eighties.

Hopefully someone will buy them and, with a bit of fettling, some new designs and stuff they'll be stronger than ever.

yup I had 2 x microns on my rd350lc too Thumbs Up

for the new 2008 bike i'm sure Micron could have developed something a little aesthetically more pleasing than this.

I guess it's time to move out of the way. I had a micron pipe on my ZX6R and it WASN'T that bad, but as you say, their designs were nowhere near as revolutionary or aesthetically pleasing as stuff like akra, yoshi, remus etc.

Hi

Think Micron generally aimed more at the useful end of the market and less at the tarts end of the market.

All the best

That is, to me, one of the most iconic sounds of biking, my brother had one and it's one of the reasons i got into biking:
The whir of the YPVS servo setting itself, followed by the crisp crackle of a pair of Micron spannies and a whiff of 2-stroke fumes.

Stuff of magic.

Thumbs Up

I've had many a Micron can and/or pipe, but the quality of the last lot of pipework I had from them was shabby. But for the money I guess it was what I paid for.

I'm happy to say that the last system I'll ever buy was the full monty Akra.

Maybe it's just me, but I quite like it Embarassed Razz
It's obviously been designed to flow with the curves on the bike like on the rear indicator housing . They tried to make it fit in a bit more, rather than be some in yer face triangular exhaust.

It's just a very big market to compete in now. I remember a time when your choice was Motad/ Marshal (Budget and older bikes), Micron (Solid, good quality and value), and Yoshimura (mega trick and expensive, and a long wait for it to be shipped over from Japan). Now there's dozens of choices, and some will inevitably fall by the wayside. Sad News.

Was going to say the same, you can't blame Micron for making it to suit a bike that's aesthetically absolutely disgusting. Wink

I had a full Micron system on the NS before the crash and it sounded much better then this sh1tty stock one.... Might try bodging it back on Cool Did make it sound soo much better & really felt like there was more raw power(no slow 125 jokes).

Hope they manage to make it back into the market before their rivals grab the advantage with both hands. Karma Or Zorsts....

I'm a big micron fan. I've had 4 micron cans now, and I'd definitely have another one.

Microns problem in the last decade or so was an inability to understand the market they were trading in.

They moved from making exhausts for everyday bikes to making pipework and end cans for the latest greatest bikes.

People rarely change the complete exhaust on a brand new bike, they wait for it to rot through first so when you pitch all your business at that end of the market you are always going to fail.

Compare the Micron website to the Motad one. Motad still list fitments dating back to the 70's, Micron don't even list back to the early 90's. In fact their cut off seems to be about 95 even though they still have fitments going back to the 80's.

A few years ago I phoned up Micron to try and get them to make up a batch of exhausts, I could even supply an original to make a pattern from and they refused, the order was worth about £15,000

Se we have a company that has a website that doesn't list EVERTHING they do, 1st point of contact these days. That appears on the face of it to be concentrating on the new bike market instead of the used bike market and goes into administration because of it. Hardly surprising really.
