Coming back from work this evening, along a large 30mph road (wide lane each way, plus a central hatched area and a cycle lane on both sides - Dyke Road for those who are Brighton'ers) doing a normal speed. I come up behind a black 04 plate Volvo, which must have been doing 28mph, no more. As soon as I come up behind the car, it veers over so that it's left wheels are literally in the gutter (and so covering the cycle lane), as though it wanted me to overtake.

I was about to open the throttle and whiz by when it popped into my mind 'Hang on a minute...'. So I hold back and look a little closer, only to see a mysterious black box on the parcel shelf, along with no dealer stickers etc. All the while they (I saw it was 2-up by then) were still over in the gutter, so there was easily enough room for me to overtake while keeping fully on this side of the road.

When they finally turned right (had to sit at just under the speed limit for what seemed like forever), I undertook them as they waited for oncoming traffic and lo-and-behold two uniforms were sitting in there.

So, my message is, go with your that niggling feeling in your head when you feel something is 'wrong', as today it let me avoid 3 points (and possibly a whole lot more if they were nit-picking about my bike Shocked ).

Thumbs Up

Thanks, Devil's Dyke's on my commute, I'll try and ride it a little slower now. Wink

What do you ride btw, I usually see the same bikes at similar places/times on my trip to work each day. (edit: just read your sig).

its always worth thinking twice before thrashing it, i was coming home earlier filtering through quite long line of traffic, come to front, guy on an sv except white helmet and flourecent jacket, kept checking his mirrors a bit 'too' much, not worth nailing it just on the off chance.
