Been looking at Honda CB500's and i love them! Would you lot recommend them for a first bike ? I'm after something for just under £1000! What year could i get that for that price? Anything to look out for?

I have got a restricted licence, will that cost a lot for me to get it restricted?

Also I am not a very tall guy only 5ft 8inc what are these like on shorter people?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Great first bike. They are reliable and well built, but as a result they hold their value. £1000 would struggle to get a great one this time of year, £1500 will land you a near perfect one.

They are about the right size for you, but i wouldnt bother getting it restricted...

The CB500 is a very good bike... just look out for ex-courier bikes and anything too tatty.

Only thing i would say, if you are a speed demon then you may get bored of it quite quickly. But as you are on a restricted licence, that probably won't bother you for a while yet.

Good choice, always been torn between a bandit 600 or a CB, guy opposite me has a cb sport with the fairing. I'm a commuter and it looks pretty damn good to me.

Would be worth going in person to see any prospective buys though, just to check it is really in good condition..

Good luck with your buying mate.

They do seem to be getting good money at the mo.
My old cb5 is on ebay right now for £900.
The height wont be an issue either, there not a big bike.
Excellent for a first bike,so easy to ride and power will feel amazing if it's your first big bike Thumbs Up (the feeling doesn't last long enough)
Cheap insurance aswell. Easily 60mpg and parts are quite easy to come by.

Classy bike. Quick enough to get you into trouble, will see the wrong side of 110mph. All good reasons why I bought a 250 instead of the CB500.

They age really well and mileage isn't an issue. The radiator is fragile and is a £200 item to replace and like many Hondas the Reg/Rec can be a weakness.

The one I was riding was mounted on BT45s and was really nimble.

I'd suggest that you should eb able to pick a good example of a 96 or even a 98 model.

An excellent choice for a new starter, just fit some crash bars if it doesn't already have them in case you drop it at low speed. Thumbs Up

The CB was my first choice, but I couldn't find one locally for my budget, so ended up with an Er-5 instead. So far so good.
