Sorry to burst your bubble but the Stelvio Pass is highly overrated and I would as far as saying it's boring.
I see that you're going to Monaco, so if you head into Nice the majority of roads heading west are superb. I hit the D6 going into Nice and it is absolutely sublime, very technical with stunning views plus you can link up with the N85 [a BCF favourite]
Depending on how far west you intend to head, the N260 from Andorra is essential and will be in my future plans for any trips I plan on the Continent... ____________________ My Bikes: Piaggio NRG| Aprilia RS 125| Suzuki GSX-R 600|Yamaha Fazer Ducati 848

From your map it looks like you are leaving from somewhere near Bristol ? Bristol - Nurburg is probably going to take more than 8 1/2hrs. Not saying it can't be done in that time, but when you factor in the the crossing, and if you're taking your gf, she'll probably want a pee every 100 miles, then something to eat, uhming and erring over what chocolate bar to buy at fuel stops etc etc.
Should be able to do it in a day, but I'd start out very early. Have you considered doing that leg of the journey in 2 days ? 500 miles a day is easy enough to do, but you're not going to see much, and it is a holiday after all. Leave yourself some drinking time
Might be worth thinking about. When I did my Europe trip on a bike I did roughly 350 miles a day. I wasn't using any motorways though and I was on a bike so there was more fuel stops than in a car. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Although Dodger rightly says Stelvio is overrated, I think it's still worth going. There are some stunning views around the area and when I went in the car last year I'd never heard of it and thought it was awesome ... not the best road in Europe but it is in a great location to carry on and find even better roads in Switzerland, Austria and Italy.
Plus the view of the road when you're at the top is pretty special.
I don't see too big a problem with the 500 miles to Germany but like has been said leave very early and be prepared to miss out on any enjoyable slow cruising you could do over 2 days ____________________ Bike - '98 Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat Pics

me and the mrs have been talking. and you guys are right. looks like im doing more driving than anything. and lets face it. theres got to be some time for a pint or 2
we were thinking about doing the ring (spend night) and the stelvio pass (another night), and from there straight down to venice. spend the week there and then find a way back
not sure how much money we'd need or how long to take off work. a week? maybe 2? |

Just a point about Venice. You thought about what you're going to do with the car during that time? You won't be able to keep it in Venice itself very easily.
When I stayed there last year, we stayed on the Lido (a strip of land south east of Venice) and this worked pretty well and you can keep your car there if needs be. ____________________ Bike - '98 Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat Pics
