I had a 7mp samsung which i was quite happy with for about a year until it broke.
Have a Canon Powershot A570 now - which i can now see is much much better than the last one - good shutter speeds, plenty of preset options for different types of shots for people who dont like to faff around trying to find optimal settings and a good range of settings for people that like to faff around looking for the optimal settings! Is also a doddle to get your pics onto the PC, built in software - just plug it in and follow the prompts. Well worth a look IMO. Can be gotten for a good price too Smile

Bought a 10mp vivitar one from amazon which i sent back almost immediately as it was obviously total crap, even with my limited camera experience.

I have a vivicam 5388. Pretty nifty. Got it on ebay for 30 quid - with 1gb card (all new from a dealer on ebay). 5mp, 3x optical zoom. You can see an example of some of the pics in my posts about my bike brakes in the workshop, and some of the video recording in my post about practising for my test.

It all depends what you want a camera for. My dad is fanatic about planes and has an extremely powerful camera that can basically capture planes in full details hundreds of metres in the air.

But I only really need something for the occasional holiday snaps, etc. If you're like me, something like the vivicam will suffice.

As for batteries, al digicams are shit in this regard. You'll either have to buy expensive batteries every few hours or get a charger for 12 quid or so from argos with batteries of at least 1800mAh. Then charge the batteries up at work!!! (that's what I do)

Panasonic Lumix. Good cameras with Leica lenses.
