If I were in your position I'd go straight for the DAS if you're old enough and get a low powered commuter bike, something like an ER5 or a Bandit. Will still feel rapid as fuck compared to your scooter but safe and reliable. Perhaps look at 400cc sports bikes if you want something a bit more aggressive.

There is plenty of useful info as well as a lot of helpful people on this forum, you'd do well to stick around as someone new to biking.

On the other hand, your first post seared out my eyes. I don't think pointing it out is being particularly anal, as its hard to read and makes the baby Jesus cry. Wink Just don't type everything in caps and use the spell checker on your posts and you'll be fine, don't take it to heart Smile

To answer your question, as you've been riding a bit (albeit on a 50cc bike) I'd recommend you give DAS a go. I found DAS to be easier than the A2 test (on a 125) due to the bigger bike used during the DAS test being much more stable. I had to think less about controlling the bike so I could concentrate more on riding well, if that makes sense. All in all it cost me around £450 for 3 days training and test.

Stuff written in capitals takes twice as long to read. You dont read each letter, but recognise the shapes of the words. I couldnt actually bring myself to read your first post. You will get alot more help if you make it easier for people to help you.

PS sorry about the caps thing (not really, I didn't think that some people would be that anal about these things). I was writing in caps as I find it easier to read what I am typing and the spell checker changed some words and put them in lower case. I didn't think that it really mattered but as it does I will make this my last post on here.

Thanks again to the one nice member that answered my post and the two teachers. I think I need to stop trying to spell everything wrong or purpose so I don't get the fucking piss ripped out of me by people who have a writing age over 5. Isit 'cos I is thick?

For those who would like to read it but couldn't like me the first time Laughing

My advice:

If you're over 21 you'd be best off doing DAS.

You can then work your way up to a bigger bike over time and not worry about restrictions. You can, to a point do the same on the A2 licence but you'd have to stick to 33bhp for 2 years.

Usual route is a 50cc, then CBT with a 125 on L plates, then A2 if under 21.

CBT is around £100, Theorey test is I think £28.50.

Training, DAS and test fees will be increasing with the new practical test coming out in just over a months time.

Then there's the kit. If you're wanting to enter the biking world, get yourself to the NEC show this November. Plenty of bargains and bikes...

PS, typing in caps lock is classed as shouting on 'tinterweb... There's a spellchecker on here if it helps.

All these folk are advising without asking the obvious question: what do you want a bike for?

If you want a steady commuter, speeds of up to 100, then a A2 will suffice.

If you want to do some serious biking RIGHT now (remember a a2 is a das within 2 yrs) , i.e. serious speed or endurance, then you might need something bigger - hence a das.

I'd say a2 is more than adequate unless you have a genuine need for a big, big bike - which for 9/10 ppl is just for showing off to ladies at junctions anyway. A decent 250cc will do you well.

Don't get too worked up about your spelling mistakes. UPPRCASE WORDS, though, tend to be read as SHOUTING - so should be avoided.
