Changed the sprockets on the NSR, and the front one has quite a lot of play when the holding plate is tightened up all the way. Not going backwards and fowards, it sits in the notches nicely, but there's play horizontally as the plate (the one that you put on and then turn so it sits in that groove) will only do up to a certain point.

i think i could lose the play by putting a couple of washers between the two retaining bolts and the sprocket holding plate itself (which would help push the sprocket back a little further) but i'm not sure if it's good that it has the free play or not.

Should the front sprocket be a bit loose, or should it be proper nice and tight?

Hi

Small amount of movement is usual.

Possible that the locating plate has worn loose a bit. They are not expensive so maybe fit a new one.

I would recommend using some loctite on the bolts holding the plate to the sprocket. Otherwise they can come off rather easily.

All the best

Keith
