Ok, so I got home about 30 minutes ago. Been driving in the car (bike insurance ran out Sad)

Get to the road in which I know better than any other road as it's just outside my house and I use it to commute in several times a week 2-4 times a day.

So I'm cruising along at 50 (in a 50) and it is 4am(ok 5, damn clocks go forward).

I see a biker coming up behind me about 1/8 of the way of the road. Not too fast, probably about 70 or so judging by the time it took him to "reach me"

So it gets to a short straight and he's behind me, full beams on and blinding me. Flashing his lights (yes not bumping up and down as the lights reminded me of recent gixxer lights with the 3 part bit or something.) And he's up my arse. I mean quite literally about 2-3 feet away. He was close enough for my parking sensors to start beeping which isn't too good when someone is following you at 50, on a damp road in -5 conditions...

Anyways, go round a corner and it's a long straight. I indicate left so he/she knows that I know they're there (as I always do) not that I could possibly not know they're there. Unless I was asleep of course.

But I just get flashed loads more times. And then leaves their full beam on. At this point I flash my brake lights (not actually brake) and 5 seconds later he overtakes.

And it's a police biker Confused And judging by his arm movement he was asking me to speed up? Now I don't mind this part (as he does bugger off pretty sharpish) but I wasn't too keen on the tailgating and being flash blinded! I carried on and waited to see if he pulled over or something. But nothing. Nada.

Eh? Ok yes, early hours, no one around about 50000000% safer to speed (can safely do 90 round every corner in the wet while raining on the bike) but I was just cruising. In no rush, about 5 minutes from home. And not holding any one up.

WTF? Laughing

Now I'm going to bed, as I gotta get up in 3 hours time for a 9 hours shift Dance!

Sounds like the low-life criminal scumbag was trying to get you to speed, so he could nick you.

Thinking

Or he could be a sensible copper who agrees with most sensible road users that speeding at that sort of time (appropriate speed) is fine.

But I doubt I'll change your mind anyways Razz

Still he didn't pull over the taxi driver that was speeding a head of me (quite a bit). I sped up after to try and catch up.

The police on the A64 did this to me in the company car during summer last year.

Kinda backfired on them as I sort of slammed on using the gears so brakelights stayed off at first, and shot into a layby as I thought i've lost a tyre or something.

I suspect they were playing at being an irate driver who was trying to get me to speed up.

I've since discovered that I can make the car throw tonnes of black smoke by bogging the engine. Works wonders on tailgators... Twisted Evil

Your rear parking sensors work when you're doing 50 going forwards?

Definitely a police biker? Not just some wannabe on a white pan with reflective bits all over it?

Wonder what would have happened if you stood on the brakes , in that it is almost universally accepted that if you hit somebody from behind , the person who hits you from behind is at fault.

It's because police bikers learn to ride from a book.

Also, he was trying to make you speed so he could give you a ticket.

I usually just lift my foot off the accelerator in the car when being tailgated until the distance between the following car and myself is a safe one.

I have not had to come to a complete halt for this to be the case yet. Rest assured if I ever do, I will then get out of the car to ask them what their problem is. Police or no.

I have stopped and told police their actions are dangerous before now. Most recently the pair of commedians who set up a speed trap on a blind, off-camber corner. I pulled in and told them that what they were doing was dangerous and if I heard about an accident being caused, I was going to tell the local paper that I had stopped and told them so. They just stand there and stammer.

I must admit I do sometimes get a little pleasure from deliberately pissing off people who tailgate me. I get it quite a bit because of the car I drive, people immediately assume old = slow and proceed to drive 2" from my bumper, even if I'm keeping up with the traffic.

i hate tailgaters, i just slow down until they back off. mainly find it's in 30mph zones so i can get down to as low as 10mph before they realise.

that or they try to undertake me (dual carriageways where the left lane is mostly blocked by parked cars) but don't have time so end up pulling back in.

i'm sure it's just because i'm in a smart car, never had this bother in a chav mobile.

When you get a tail gater you know they want past so let them and when they get caught you can laugh (serves them right). OR could be they have an emergency at home or where ever . They are not asking you to speed or be the wise vigilanty

Wouldn't that be entrapment, if he got you for speeding?

Tailgaters can piss off if I'm doing the speed limit. If they think the speed limit is too low, overtake me (I've had that happen on residential streets!) or complain to the council.

I used to do the 'just coast until they back off' thing until remembering how pissed I get at morons who crawl along below the speed limit.

When I am in the car, which is not very often, and I have a tailgater, I just stand on the brakes!

None of this, flashing the brakelight pish or easing off the accelerator, I just stomp on the brakes.

I have busted a few bumpers on the towbar, the first occasion I get any damage to the back of the car I'll take the cnut to the cleaners.

I f'kin hate motorists
