Hello folks,

Right im completely new to this bike with engine lark, and i need some help.

Basicaly im 6ft6 and 17, with no bike experience. I fancy a bike but i doub't im going to find a 125 thats big enough for me without looking like a circus bike.. I was thinking on doing CBT and buying a bigger bike and restricting it down to 15bph? Like a GSXR 600 or something similar. (proberly something a bit bigger.)

I don't even know if this is possible or not but im stuck for ideas.

Or somehow doing CBT and A1 and then buying a bigger bike. But not owning one inbetween.

I'm not sure how to go about this.

Anyone got any advice,

(Bare in mind i'm an absoloute noob.)

As far as i'm aware you're not allowed anything bigger than a 125cc whilst riding on a CBT so restricting a 600 would be out of the question until you got your licence.

I'm over 6ft but not quite as tall as you and i was riding on a Suzuki GS125 before I did my DAS. The GS wasn't too bad although it did sometimes feel like my chin was resting on my knees.

Some of the 125cc crusier type bikes might be better as your legs are stretched out in front of you.

I have had a sit on a Jinlun JL125 and for a 125 it was bloody massive and actually quite good looking if you like that sort of thing.

Could be the way to go.

Correct, officially the maximum you can ride on L plates is 125 cc with a power output of 11 kW. Some 125 cc bikes (the 2 strokes like the NSR125, RS125 etc) have more powerful engines and are not learner legal unless you get them restricted.

You could go for the option of going for one of those packages which has a CBT, extra training and a test at the end. Since you're 17, it'll be the A2 test, which restricts you to 2 years at 33bhp. The only thing for that sort of course/test is that you need a spare week or so to get it done, unless you stagger it over more time, like at weekends.

Don't do the A1 test as you can only ride the same power bikes as you can with L plates. Pointless test really.

If you want to do your CBT and ride around for a while afterwards, the Honda Varadero 125 and Yamaha R125 are big learner legal machines, worth checking out, as well as the cruiser options (but I personally think cruisers look a bit silly with L plates).

.....ooo, my chin rested on the tank!! Embarassed

If I was you, I'd get by for the CBT and A2 and then get your own bike. If you can rattle the test off quickly, you'll be on your own bike in no time!

.....just think, at least you'll be able to have one of those trendy tank bags, I'll only ever be able to dream..... Very Happy

Have you considered a Honda Varadero 125? They are bigger than your average 125. I'm 6'3'' and i felt a right proper t*&t when i did the CBT on a 125 and even on the DAS. I ride monster trailies Vara 1000 and GS1200 simply because the bigger bikes suit my frame.
