I've took the wire off the rad fan switch (on the radiator) and put it to earth and the fan works.
So now i want to wire a switch onto it,but still keep the original wiring in place?

Can i just splice into the wire going to the fan switch, run that to a switch, from switch to earth.(sounds right to me,just want to make sure)

Also,if that does work,i noticed when i earthed the wire a few sparks come off it.Is that gonna happen when i flick the switch?
Will i need a certain kind of switch/wiring?

Thanks for any input Thumbs Up

Why do you want to do it? If the fan switch isn't working its easier and better to buy a new one. You can still have a switch in as well if you wanted.

It's still working on the original wiring as far as i know, but i was told it wont kick the fan in until just before the redline Confused .
I'd prefer it not to go over 3/4 before coming on.

So is the way i've described above the right way to wire it in?
And any special kind of switch i would need?

Thanks
Dave

why? , colder engines anedotally at the very least produce more power than hot engines, and you may get problems with seizing

I've done this on my old nc30. Replacement switch would of cost 50quid. Manual switch and some wires less than 3quid. Plus the 30 tends to run very hot anyway. Halfrauds can supply the switch you may need to find somewhere to mount it (it was on the infill panel on mine) just stick the switch between the earth and wire.

It does seem a bit pointless as if you are going over 3/4 throttle surely the amount of wind that is going into the engine is more than a fan could ever compete with anyway.

Oh well, here is a diagram.

I meant the temp gauge is showing 3/4 of the way and the fan still is'nt coming on.
It happens because i have to go through the tyne tunnel, which means being stuck in 20+min traffic jams (no room to filter),so id like to regulate it manually at about half way(the temp gauge) just while in heavy traffic...

Anyway, cheers for the pic Thumbs Up from that it looks the same sort of way i described..

EDIT:
Your diagram's better, but this is what i was thinking!

That makes sense.

All you are doing is with your manual switch, by-passing the automatic one so that current can flow through the circuit and the fan will then cool your engine.

Your diagram is wrong unless it is confusing me. By putting a switch in the middle of earth will do nothing. It will mean that if you had the switch 'off' the fan would never come on and your engine would overheat. If you had the switch 'on' the fan would come on when the automatic switch turns 'on'.

You would have to find the automatic switch, splice the wires either side of it and wire in your manual switch.

Damn, i hate anything to do with wiring Laughing

If i pull that wire off the fan switch (on the radiator) and press it on the frame, the fan comes on.
So i though the way i was gonna do it (my pic) would work because it will be the same as pushing that wire onto an earth when i flick the switch, but with the switch off would make no difference to the original wiring?

I'll have a mess about and see what happens Laughing

Cheers anyway Thumbs Up

Yeah that works because you are pulling out the wire that is positive, then when you stick it on the frame it completes the circuit. So you could splice before the automatic switch, wire up your manual switch from that to the frame. It's the same as what I said apart from I was wiring it back to the other side of the automatic switch.

Your way would be simpler though because you only really need 1 wire then as you could earth it at the mounting point of the manual switch.
