Theres currently about 40 cars outside my office waiting to be to towed away, Manchester Police have been having regular stop and checks for a while now (i got a FPN few weeks back for wrong font on my numberplate) but this seems to be taking the piss! theres a pregnant mother with 3 kids left crying at the roadside at the moment after something not checking out with her insurance on a 2008 car, other cars being towed for minor things, one tire thats abit low on tread etc etc... now i thought the police would tend to give you either a producer or notice of correction for things like that? One of the guys just been talking to the police and they said theyve only been there 30 mins and looking to make tens of thousands today...

The government is short on cash , they HAVE to make it up some how, I mean 5000% income tax which would clear the government debt in about 20 years, isn't politically acceptable is it?.

The trouble with things like this is the total shitness (new word) of the Motor Insurers Database.

It only takes the Police to see a issue with your vehicle on the database, at a checkpoint like this, and that is it. Your car is towed away until it is resolved.

The database sucks. It is a one level I.T platform that every insurer needs to interface with, whatever platform they are on. The incompatability causes constant issues leaving the innocent at the roadside and vehicle-less.

If you take the piss with bald tyres and the like, well, it's your own fault. Fuck ya! Thumbs Up

Would be a different story if she hit your bike and wasn't insured, maybe a genuine mistake but she should read the documents when it comes through more thoroughly. I think she will next time now.

Seems like they are being pretty petty about it all, like theres starting to be a zero tolerence to everything! It'd good that the police are getting uninsured drivers and defective vehicles off the road but theres a difference between those who deliberately and constantly do it (ones who you see in the paper driving whilst already banned etc) and the people who are normally law abiding and may need a gentle nudge to make them aware. i mean some of these things are small and a simple warning to get it rectified would save a lot of hassle for both parties i.e. disruption for the motorist, police time and paperwork...

My plate for example, I thought i would of just got a warning to say "can you change it and then provide evidence you have done or get stung in the pocket". Instead im left with a 30quid fine immediately even after explaining ive just bought the bike and havent had a chance or the docs sent through yet to get one made.

I've also been pulled a few years ago and was handed a producer to show my documents at the local cop shop. Anyways from this found out that my insurance company had failed to change my details over to my car after i contacted them and they just sent me out new backdated docs to take to the copshop. Was a brief interruption in my day, made me aware of the error which was rectified and i was not left with a big bill for recovery and storage. If that was today then i'd be stood at the nearest bus stop instead with a very empty pocket.

Fast forward to a few months back, a colleague had his car towed because his insurance didn't match his drivers licence... turned out it was because it had his middle name on it (hes got a weird asian name). He got his car back in the end and no further action against him was taken, but don't think he got recovery and storage back.

The guy who hit me with a van last year wasnt aware his insurance had stopped covering him for about 6 months due to payments being messed up. But his insurance company are still covering him to pay for my claim and no action from the police was taken against him for this. Now if he had been pulled today again merrily minding his own business, he'd have to empty his pockets due to insurance company messing up.

Nice, sounds like they'll make a killing! Thumbs Up

Btw N30, I was in Stoke last weekend and it's been a LONG time since I've seen so many police on the road, they were all over the place, how you've not been pulled over with that plate is beyond me. This is of course assuming you never see police and don't actually just run every time you see them.

Stoke as in the town center stoke?

or stoke as in stoke on trent?

I live near blythe bridge/forsbrook, very quiet little villages, it has a police station but not a proper one that people can walk in, doesn't have cells etc. just somewhere for them to do their paperwork.

Stoke as in the city area.

Surely you travel out of your little village every so often, or are you one of those village types that never leaves the place. Wink

why would I want to venture into the city where the plod are Thumbs Up

I've just been to a pub, sat outside next to the bike with some mates and the police turned up, started to take down reg plates to find out who was parked illegally. Started to take my reg and I told him it was mine, all he asked me to do was move it to the car park, wasn't bothered about the plate Thumbs Up

I'll get you a pic next time Laughing
