Ive got a VW golf. Its a Mk5 so has the Double DIN style head unit.

Ive had it out and theres just one big block connector which is in the back of it. There is also an empty slot in the back of the HU with nothing plugged into it.

I was to run a Sub.

So im wondering if anybody knows if this extra Plug socket in the back of the Head unit could possibly have a pre-out in it.

Any New school VW heads out there.

Just for the record, hers the HU.

I'm guessing there must be a sub output somewhere because the Audi's have the same sort of setup but come with a sub in the boot as standard.

Got plans to put one of these in there. BUT it doesn't play DVD's.

So if I was going to go the whole hog and change the Head unit completely, I'd go for a double DIN touch screen with built in DVD player, GPS etc.

Running a sub is not a problem if I go down this route. Just thought I could save some dosh in the mean time and run a sub from my Stock MP3 VW head unit.

Doesn't really answer your question as such, and I kinda assume you know this already, but in case you don't:

You don't need to have pre-outs to run an amp.

Okay, I understand that you can run a "high input" into an amp providing its got the High input feature.

But where am I going to get my high input from?

Don't get one of those Chinese double-din units off ebay (like the one you have pictured), they are a pile of crap. Robby had one, all he could get was channel 4 even after putting in an amplified aerial, and the cd player stopped working very soon.

I bought one too to put in my T5. In all fairness it worked perfectly, the TV I didn't use anyway but did try it, reception was generally not great, but I could recieve all channels, some with a near perfect picture if I moved the aerial about (can't imagine it working reliabily though).

The CD player and MP3/DVD function worked fine. My main gripe with it was despite noise filters on the wiring there was a constant interference noise through the speakers from the units dvd drive running.

Also the touchscreen menu was bad, not user friendly at all. But for the money it was ok, just more novelty than function, you think it's all great, but in reality all you use is the CD/MP3 function so what the point in all the other stuff.

Well I wired the sub in today. Looks tidy.

Just got a cheap 400watt mp set up. No point going big because the rest of the ICE in the car is stock at the moment.

I took a pair of +'s and a pair of -'s from behind the head unit, Snipped into them and wired them into a "Speaker to RCA" box.

The used RCA leads to wire to the amp.

Amp has its own bass engine built in so its all good. Thumbs Up

Only strange thing is, The amp/sub runs louder with just one RCA jack plugged in, Instead of two. Even though im running the Amp in "Bridge"mode. Confused

I'm a bit puzzled about the "Speaker to RCA" block too. It had 4 wires coming out. Green, Brown, Black, Grey.

The Green will only work with the brown, and the Black will only work with the grey.

There were no instructions with it either.

Anybody had any experiences with these.
