I saw this in our local rag last week. Apparently this type of course is increasing in popularity; many of the applicants for this one travel a fair way to it.

Unfortunately I don't like the way society is headed at the best of times. Courses such as this one seem to reinforce my fears about future generations and their attitudes towards freedoms. Orwellian nightmares and shouting telescreens etc. Razz

Agree or disagree? What do you make of it?

Jump forwards 10 or 20 years and young people then won't have ever known any different, being watched by cameras 24/7 and living in a surveillance society will be completely normal to them.

Civil liberties? Freedom? Nah, you must be talking some foreign language, we don't have those in this country.

I tend to think they are good for spotting trouble in towncentres and are extra eyes for the police, so I dont think they can cause any real harm.

I know of two people who were convicted of gbh due to cctv footage that would have otherwise got off due to no evidence.

Sounds good to me.

That sounds like a course to get an SIA CCTV license. What's wrong with that?

Companies want people to look after their property via CCTV and I doubt it will be long before police forces refuse to attend commercial intruder alarms without some form of visual confirmation. All this means CCTV operators are needed and you can't do that without the license. To all those people on here that complain about there being no jobs around, go do the course Wink

I don't give a monkeys about private companies watching their own property with cameras. That's their lookout.

What I don't like is the cameras on every street corner and students being encouraged to 'spy' on others with CCTV. Public CCTV stands diametrically opposed to my beliefs of what liberty and freedom is.

Or the students might just be being encouraged to get a qualification that will help them get a job in one of the few industries that has a future. As long as CCTV is used correctly it is a useful tool, these kind of courses teach you how to use it properly and the laws/regulations involved.

Worryingly that's probably true. That along with prison guards / law enforcement officers etc will probably be commonplace soon once the economy crashes etc.

Hence, why I'm worried. Wink

Won't be long and we'll all be followed around by police drones in case we break the nine billion pieces of pointless legislation enacted by this authoritarian government.
