So I did my DAS and won.

My first EVER bike the zxr 750, 91 (J1) the one with shed loads of midrange but a bit fluffly past 8k, ignition advancer and factory pro jet/needles helped sovle most of the post 8k softness.

The only bike I've ever owned, but somehow the only bike I ever want to own. Just as i worry about world oil running out I worry about low milage zxrs disappearing.

The more I read about this bike the more I want to ride it, the more i ride this bike the more I love it. I've only had it since Novmeber yet already it makes me feel like I've been riding for years.

I've been on my friends zx7r 96 it was ok but I felt like I was perched on top of something looking down at everyone. I hit the motorway went pretty fast. . . well that was it... I didn't even feel like I was going pretty fast and it was A to B in a few mintutes and even less words. Rewind to ZXR ages and I get wind buffeting, airbox roar and old skool I4 sounding encouragment to take me there. My friends zx7r can leave my zxr for dust yet when I ride my zxr I feel like I'm riding a real bike, a bike that was meant to be a bike not a bike that was mean to take you somewhere fast with ease, that's why we have trains and planes no?

Furthermore Its' done 40,000 miles and I start getting worried, I should start seeing some signs of deterioration right. . .? some signs of degradation surely? at least something to show it's on it's last legs, a warning sign please ? Already I'm searching biketrader, lining up my next bike as I'm certain this ones gonna die in a few hundred miles time, its an 18 year old bike that's been abused from day 1 for christssakes!!!

. . . 5000 miles later and not a peep . . nope, nothing. It sounds as good now as It surely did 18 years ago. Maybe a bit rattly but they all did.

Sometimes. . . just occasionally. . . I fantasize about tourers, off roaders and even trailers but when I got back on the ZXR everything changed or rather, remained as it should. Don't get me wrong I'm a biker through and through if i had my way I'd have a bike for EVERY occasion, every season but when I hit the ZXR I don't know what it is but all I see and know is this bike.

Perhaps it's cause it looks so old, or perhaps it looks so good, perhaps it sounds so aggresive and loud or perhaps it sounds so silly, perhaps it looks so cool or perhaps it looks so stupid what I do know is occasionally, in fact more often than not I get people stopping at the side of the road and watch as I ride past(not stupidly) they just stop and watch. I feel like I've done something wrong, did I have my lights on? At first I thought perhaps they were mad but soon realised that fast green things that whip past them just make them watch.

It turns out that for most people my age plus 10 years this was the poster bike of all time. The stainless system and modified airbox roar is just icing on the cake and to see(hear) one gunning past on the off chance is the dream they never had.

The ZXR, the bike of all bikes.

EDIT: Grammar, probably spelling and I guess an apology for the wall of text!!!)

Check back in about 5 months time to discover that it'll soon be the ICING ON YOUR CARBS! Laughing . I have no idea why kawasakis have it bad, i was riding my ZXR250 in the misty winter and it was hunting/surging all the time. I knew i had a fully charged battery and full tank, but it REALLY doesn't like that sort of condition when its about 0-7 degrees and murky.

Kawasaki's generally have bulletproof engines, hence why you see plenty at 50k and still going on... No issues. The suspension and other chassis components such as brake disks and calipers will need attention to, but they're pretty iconic bikes with the twin headlights, sleek nose and henry hoover pipes.

Any pics, or it didn't happen. What colour is it? Kawasaki France endurance rep?

Hey! I've suffered the dreaded carb icing early this year down and back on the motorway, wasn't enough to stall it but it did bring me into the inside lane to a modest 65mph for the rest of the journey.

I agree the engine just seems to want to go on and on it is however the other components that start to fail. I've already had to rebuild the rear caliper, overhaul the front ones, and the clutch slave system. Kawa's always seem to have a quirky feature and this models was that stuff suspension. I'll try and get some pics up it's had a kawa green respray with the corect decals so looks pretty mint. I lust over the france endurance colors however.

Yeah, the kwak brakes are horrendous. I don't even know why dirt loves getting into them! Also, be weary of electrics. It might be a good time to replace a few wires and connectors in the loom before something big lets go and leaves you stranded.

Had both, the ZXR and the 7R, loved both and would have both despite their failings and reliability issues.

Nice 1st bikes that'll treat you well if looked after.

Heh Fuel pump block connector went and DID leave me stranded, motorway of all places. Back home with bike and 85 quid lighter it left me pondering the ins and outs of the non runner for a week with alot of trial an error, alot of time and money for a what would of been 50p fix for a new block connector or even cheaper solder, still I learn't alot about the bike that week and even more about how things work so in a way it was an invaluable lesson.

Already had to de-corrode the starter solenoid too as I had increasingly irratic starting problems. Perfect now.

My mates 51 plate zx6r engine died after 5 years and just under 20k miles. It had low compression in 2 cycliners and it had a fully stamped service book. The bike is still going wth a new engine.

I love old oil cooled GSXR's. My 750M has done about 60K and is still going strong. I think if anything does give me trouble with it it will be electrical gremlins, had a few dodgy connectors to sort already. Luckily there is no fuel pump or other nonsense to worry about. I probably keep it forever and just rebuild the engine if it wears out - but 60K from a race rep is impressive stuff.

Definitely. Don't older bikes(to a point) seem to be more realiable? just better built? the early to mid ninties stuff in perticular.

My friend had a gsxr 1000 54 plate that dropped a valve after like 9k.
