"Hi Mr Wilson, I'm calling from Action Legal with regards to a road traffic accident you may have had in the last three years."
"Yeah?"
"Was it your fault, that accident?"
"Yes. As far as I know my insurers dealt with it at the time."
"Ok. And did you have any passengers in the car?"
"No, it was just me."
"Ok, thanks for your time."

What's that all about then? Confused

They called me on my work number completely out of the blue.

All I can think of is some kind of compensation company. But why would they be asking me about the nature of the accident?

wtf.com?

That is well weird!

Strangest call I ever got, was a death threat, on an inherited mobile phone, but the guy wouldn't stop ranting for long enough to let me explain that my mum had passsed on, and I had no idea where her ex-boyfriend was.

I kinda enjoyed it, actually. I'd answer the phone with a cheerful hello, each time mister anon phoned. No idea who he was though.

Your phone call sounds well dodgy though, how did they get that info I wonder?

Sounds like someone calling from one of those ads off the TV. "No win no fee" kinda thingy.

Bit cheeky asking if there were passengers. They'd sue you for their injuries!

Yeah, but how did they get the information anyway? I suppose it could be something to do with putting my details into Confused.com the other week, though I don't think I put my work number in :/

Being an 'Accident specialist' they probably have access to the insurers database so can see who's had an accident in x number of years.

Most databases in this country are open to all kinds of abuse. Especially if there's profit for those involved in running it. Smile

It's just ambulance chasers, keep the call going as long as possible then ask them to hold quickly whilst you go and answer the door then just leave the phone sitting there to see how long they wait for. Wink

If they're asking if there were passengers then they'd be trying to get the passengers to claim against you as the driver.

Thats similar to a call I had on my mobile today from e car insurance (who I have never been insured with). They asked if all injury claims from my car accident last October were settled, they are. I have no idea where they got the number from other than a central database.

Only info they seem to have had is your name and phone number. The rest they can just guess.

All the best

It was probably the same company that called me. They asked me if I had had passengers, and I said I had had eight. By then, we'd established it was on a motorbike, and the mong still didn't realise I was pulling his leg.

He wanted to get their details and I told him I'm not in a habit of giving my friends phone numbers to random callers so that was it.

I got one the other day and one a month ago.

Came in quite handy as someone rear ended me late June in the company car.

Cold calling on the offchance of "creating" some business. Sign up for TPS and tell them that within the first few minutes of the call.

The problem with that approach is that he'll then start asking you mechanical questions about bikes, so you'd best brush up first.

The fact that they diodn't mention which accident specifically would have led to me putting the phone down.
