I expect my Fazer will be written off. Its 10 years old so has a fairly low value despite its almost concors condition.

I have been offered this 1995 1200 Bandit for £2500. While this is over the odds, the bike is stunning. 19k on the clocks. I am vert tempted. Opinions anyone?

Are you going to ride it in winter, or in rain? If so then don't bother. It will look tired very quickly, and 19k is a lot for a bike these days.

it will also be slower and heavier than your Fazer. I'd say for the same kind of money buy a CBR600 or something. Something that will last a winter and won't be overpriced.

Is the CBR 600 more of a race bike that commuter/tourer?

The cbr600f is a 'sports tourer'

Cheers Chris. Will add this to my searches. Found quite a lot of Fazers so far but a change will also be exciting. I kinda like muscle bikes like the CBR 1300, XJR 1300 but the Newer Z1000 also look sweet. Do the Z1000,s stand up to commuting? I get the impression they are not so robust Confused .

Of course 10 years ago the exact same bike was Hondas flagship sportsbike... Wink

I love how the development of more savage machines has dropped the F from the Supersports to Sportstouring. Very Happy

If you like the fazer it might be worth sticking with them, a guy at work has one (1000cc 02 plate) with 50+k miles on it it hasn't had a major service in about 30k miles Shocked It still runs sweat as a nut and looks like a bike with far less miles there is only a bit of corrosion on the engine.

I think they are cracking bikes.

No of course not. The CBR600F is comfortable, practical, reliable, fast and fun. Its a great all rounder.

As long as you stick with the dual seat F model and avoid the F sport and RR models you'll be fine. I can't think of a better bike as a commuter actually, because unlike the Fazer or the Bandit it actually gives you some wind and weather protection too. Do not underestimate the power of a fairing! Smile Plus its better built and won't rot if it rains.

My point is though that you can get a decent CBR for that money that is lighter, faster, less prone to rot and actually probably more comfortable. My first thought with clip-on handlebars is that they are less comfy than 'traditional' bars, but that is not true The CBR is so well balanced to place the weight between your feet, arse and hands that it just feels right.

They are very good bikes, and should not be overlooked - especially when you are looking to pay that much for a highish mileage Bandit. Don't be too afraid of high mileage CBR's either. They go forever and the only real issue is the cam chain tensioner which goes around 30k, and is a fairly cheap fix.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-HONDA-CBR-600-F-RED_W0QQitemZ180284390812QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180284390812&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

There you go, much newer than the blandit - a bit more mileage perhaps but it is a better bike.

OK OK I get the message Very Happy . The CBR600F is perfect for my needs and is a cracking bike too. They are readily avaible too but colours are a bit OTT for my taste. Will see if I can locate an all black one Cool

I didn't notice that was a 1200 bandit by the way... it will be a little faster than the Fazer, and is probably worth more money than I thought... but I'm not sure if its worth that much.

Plus road tax is more expensive on bikes over 600cc.

It will rot in wet weather though, and it will wheelie for england.

Depends if you want a big lazy heavy (but powerful) bike or a 600cc screamer I suppose...

Going to look at a 97 CBR with 23K on the clocks tomorrow. Cool Anything specific to look out for?

That Bandit definately seems overpriced but 19,000 is nothing for one of those engines.

How much is it?

Tyres and consumables - check and knock money off if they aren't in good order

check for rattling/smoking from the engine/exhaust.

Take a photo, post it here with the details and we'll be able to give you a better idea. The downside of the CBR is that because they are common, shagged ones are more common. But thats a risk you run with any bike.

97 will be a steel framed CBR, so will be a little heavier than the ally framed 99 onwards models.

Hi

I would say that Bandit is over priced. There is one on Ebay at the moment for £2000 with no bids which has only done 1300 miles.

They are good bikes, pretty solid and reliable. They do corrode a bit, especially underneath.

Nothing wrong with the CBR, although the fuel range doesn't seem to be great and the older steel framed ones do not seem to be that well made.

All the best

Keith

One years MOT but will need a rear tyre and C+S kit soon. £1785 is the asking price but they are open to offers.

Why do I need to avoid a CBR 600FS? I ask as there is one local for the right money.

My Fazer has been written off this morning Sad

Because they have seperate pillion and rider seats, and aren't all that comfortable. They are much less of a sports tourer than the F.

I was surprised actually theres not much difference in weight between a steele and an ally frame after riding a 1995 CBR and my 2000. Theres less physical frame in the steel as its stronger.

Looks like a good bike, and again whats been said, there tough machines.

DW we all gotta learn:P

The F is the model

I.E. CBR 600 F
CBR 600 RR
CBR 600 F Sport
As in the case of the F model the letter after is linked to a corrisponding year

So,

CBR 600 FY = 2000
CBR 600 FX=1999
CBR 600 FW=1998
CBR 600 FS = 1997

Ill dig out the rest of the years in a sec

IF on the other hand the bike is 2000+ then it will be something like this

CBR 600 FY 2000
CBR 600F-1 2001
CBR 600FS-1 2001
CBR 600F-2 2002
CBR 600FS-2 2002

^^Those bike are the F Sport model which is the one you don't want, the ones wit the cats eye lights.
