Does anybody know whether it is normal for the fuel gauge on my cbr 125 to br really inconsistent?

I fill it up (all 10 litres!) and the mark goes past the full line and it stays there for ages. Then when it starts to drop, it drops a lot really quickly. I fill it when it gets to quarter of a tank yet it only takes about 5 litres to fill so the gauge can't be that accurate anyway.

I'm not bothered by it, i just wanted to know if it was normal.

Also, i dropped it while i was doing a u-turn this morning (didn't see the greasy mud in the car park) and the engine kept running. Shouldn't it cut out?

Any help mucho appreciated.

Kate

not sure about the cbr fuel gauge but my boss told me his 88 rs 125 use to never be accurate when it came to the fuel bit.

as for cutting out, i would think so if it was in gear, but maybe sometimes the engine stays on. must b e why most bikes have a emergency power cut button. that's a guess.

when my cbr125 went into the red, i never got more than 6.5litres in (i think theres 2.5litres left when it reaches red.

Best bet it to take the fuel cap off and have a look, if you can see breakers on the bottom of the tank, fill up Smile

PS. mine didn't have a kill switch (R5 model).

Why would the engine cut out when you drop it?

Fuel gauges on bikes are about as accurate as shaking the tank and listening to it. Car ones change their mind every time you go round a corner, accelorate or brake, bike ones are even worse.

I'd imagine it'd be the same as mine, my bike is a Honda CG 125 though. I had wondered the same thing until I read in the manual that it takes a gallon of fuel before the fuel guage will fall to the 'full line' and start decreasing. A design feature apparently, though I have no idea why!

i'm not sure if engines cut out when you are in gear and release the clutch, but i assume it is unless i am wrong. well i mean it stalls, if this is a different term to cutting out.
