Hi all,

I've had a day looking round bike shops - I took a CBF250 for a test ride and it bored the hell out of me! - Redlined at 70-80!

I'm now discounting 250's but am I going to be seeing similar performance from a bigger bike restricted down to 33bhp?
(I hope not - my City Fly was more fun!)

The CB250 is about 20bhp, so expect a bit more from a true 33bhp bike. The CB is a twin with very boring power delivery and isn't exactly designed to corner quickly.
Restricting a bike is likely to kill its fun especially if its a very revvy engine. I had a go on a mates XR400 supermoto, less than 33bhp but great fun.

Most fun 250 would be an RS250, but bit more than 33bhp and wont restrict well and is a twin.

The same shop has a Yamaha Diversion which they reckon won't be too bad restricted - I'm off to try it a little later in the week... ... just trying to see if they are any good - that 250 made me appreciate my little 125 City Fly - surely that's not right! Wink

CBF follows on from the Superdream. It's optimised to be a cheap, efficent commuter, which is why it is such a slow seller.

The CBF isn't a nice bike, it's only use is a slightly bigger learner bike.

My superdream has a bit more grunt than 20bhp, I reckon that's because it isn't so limited by emission standards.

Most V-Twins take restriction well, as they hit peak torque fairly early compared to higher revving IL-4s. SV650s are said to restrict well, a friends ER-6 took it well too.

what kind of bike are you looking for, theses a lot of faster 250's out there, buying a bigger bike and restricting it might work out less worth while then just getting something thats around 33bhp any way Wink

I have a restricted diversion, a 600n, yamahas bandit. I noticed a huge difference going from a 125. Can't fault the divvy, a cracking first big bike Thumbs Up

Try a Harley Sportster. The 883 isn't very powerful anyway so a 33bhp restriction shouldn't bother it much

Personally – I’m more than happy with answers/advice given here. There’s much more experience on these boards that I have alone. It can never be the be all and end all, but it certainly has proved helpful to me!
