attempted a wheelie on hornet 600

could not do it.... my first big bike, tried to power it on in 2nd, but ended up just doing a wheel spin. Then got incredibly worried that i have damaged the gearbox or chain or something in some way....
How do people wheelie their bikes, and what is the likely damage that could occur?

1 gear, get into the power band and bang the throttle on.
Try not to lean forwards.

Easiest way to do it on the hornet is to be in first whack it up to about 10k on full throttle, then shut it, then whack it straight open again, that's how I started learning on mine. It'll come up quiet gently. It won't come up off the power in second on stock gearing.

As above, haven't got much chance on a hornet in second; use first and as ever do it progressively.

I've tried wheelies on ym hornet and even cracking the throttle open/shut/open in first, it barely lifts... it's a good way to start though.

I've tried off the clutch a couple of times and had little wheelies, but I'm shit at it, keep meaning to practise but never get round to it and I'm scared of dropping it... but now that my bike is a bit banged up it could be a good time to give it a go...
