Is this the first ever murder due to a video game? Sounds to me that the suspect isn't very well & they've played on this.

A Thai teenager has confessed to robbing and murdering a taxi driver after trying to imitate scenes from the controversial "Grand Theft Auto" video game.
"He said he wanted to find out if it was as easy in real life to rob a taxi as it was in the game," chief investigator Veeravit Pipattanasak told Reuters.

Do you have to kill a vidoe game shop owner in the game??

Media reflects society, not the other way round.

I wouldn't say so. If the media didn't tell half of society what to do things would be alot easier.

Also it's not the first, there was that kid who stabbed someone in the park with a screwdriver after playing Manhunt for hours.

Rockstar have alot to answer for.

I was watching a WW2 film the other day. It looks real easy to commit genocide. I should try it and see, if anyone dies its the films fault, not mine Rolling Eyes

Ah, so the media told him to stab a cabbie?

No?.......Thought not.

The lad reportedly said himself that he wanted to see if it was as easy as it is in the game.

HE wanted to see if it was easy, not he was told to.

i think he may be pointing out you get what you focus on..the consciousness of a nation especially the young is formed from the information taken in,the constant news builds a reality.. it creates the norm.... death/violence.. is now the norm..if you watch the news you view the most horrific of reality's/events while eating your breakfast and it does not touch you..the news conditions you..weather you become a star of the news due to your actions comes down to the person..the news is deffo a big influence though..to change a nation you have to change its information..no im not saying the news shouldt report bad things, there needs to be a paradigm shift..constantly focusing on the bad just creates more of it.

Ah, nice, a knee jerk reaction triggering ban culture exacerbation.

BAN IT! BAN IT! BAN IT! BAN IT! BAN EVERYTHING, QUIIICK!

Rolling Eyes

I thoroughly enjoyed shooting cabbies in the face, crushing commuters between car bonnet and wall, and beating hookers to death with my fists. On GTA 3.

I have no desire to see 'if it's as easy' to do any of those things in real life.

The thai kid was clearly mentally unbalanced.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that I hate.

The kid did it because he was a psycho, not because of the video game.

It seems to be all too easy now for people to blame their actions on other people when it's clearly their fault.

What's next? Ban Top Gear because it encourages people to speed?

Oh, wait...

Jesus.

The thing about the media was a general comment. E.g. how nobody would give a flying fuck about madeline McCann or Heather Mills if the Express weren't so fixated on them.

And all I said was Rockstar have alot to answer for. I didn't say they should have, I said they do. Have you seen the amount of people that want to ban the games? Google Jack Thompson Rolling Eyes

Yamaha have a lot to answer for! that fucking R1,might as well be called "the holocaust for road users"..i mean a machine that does 0 to just under the legal speed limit on any road within three seconds and near a ton(yes the instant ban man) in first gear..dear god..the lunacy..the sheer fucking brilliance of it!.. but have you seen the amount of people who want to ban them? Google "old moaning twat in a nova.... Rock star provide entertainment..and give clear age limits for there products. its thought that those 18 and above are mature enough to know the difference between right and wrong, a lot less suggestible then say a 13 year old..its a game..its not real..
to blame the game would be the same as blaming the fantasy's in ones mind for there actions.. neither are the problem..not being able to tell the fucking difference between fantasy and reality is the problem.

I LIKE ROCKSTAR

I LIKE MANHUNT

I DONT LIKE BANNING STUFF.

I wish people would actually read my posts instead of analysing the first sentance and predicting the rest.

I wouldn't like to be in The CEO or whoever has to deal with it of Rockstar's shoes, nor would I like to be the same in Yamaha.

Both of them have been blamed for people dying, both will have actually been caused by idiot or unbalaced people, not the products, but that won't stop armies of people complaining to them. And because they're a company with "customer service" they will have to reply. As in answer them? As in they have alot to answer for? Rolling Eyes

And Guv if it wasn't for the media how would you know anything about Madeleine McCann?

ah misunderstood what you wrote..easy thing to do over the internet... i would never agree that they have a lot OF People To Answer to though,as in these people deserve to be answered to,in fact if i was CEO of either company id suggest we deal with this issue by sending letters out to all concerned advising them to fuck them selves with a screw driver. for those who view such things as a bad influence that is capable of causing murder are of unbalanced mind them selves..its all about self responsibility and awareness..you can only give the world view you experience.which is what the moaners are doing..just from the opposite end of the spectrum

You can't blame the media for this, you just can't and stabbing people in the neck just to see if you can still isn't the norm much as the press would like you believe it was.

The media only print or show the things they think will sell papers or attract viewers, the more hysterical the story the more it'll attract attention to itself.

The point is, for a person to go and stab someone in the neck, they need to be psychologically damaged in the first place. The media or a video game is just a trigger, the only way to prevent things like this happening is to identify the person first then block all sensory input just in case it sets him or her off. Not exactly practical but fortunately, this isn't norm so it seldom happens which isn't to say its horrible when it does.

The media don't 'tell' people what to do, stupid people allow themselves to be guided by it, which is entirely different.

Thumbs Up

You can blame the media.

It affects the way people think.

Depiction of violence often glorifies it to extent, and interactive media make the user feel a bit as though they are doing the violence.

The guy in Thailand may have never killed someone if he hadnt played that game.

Rap music glamorises violence, as do violent movies, but in computer games, its you that is doing the violence.

The guy in Thailand may never have killed anyone if he was locked up from birth and never allowed out in public. The point is, there are somethings you just can't defend against.

Although its all what ifs now, he would have been triggered by something else, what ever made him do it was always lurking uner the surface. It might of been a film or a book. There has to be a flaw in a person's personality in the first place.

If what you're supporting is true, everyone who plays video games would be doing it and that isn't the case.

Ok an innocent person dies, its tragic, but banning it or even blaming it because a tiny (less than 0.1%) of the people who use it react badly to it is wrong. You punish the vast majority for the acts of the tiny minority.

Thumbs Up
