yesterday morning we had a new Sky+ box installed. We already had Sky, now we have Sky+. But it seems to be producing a really loud humming noise! It wasn't doing it yesterday, but it's been doing it all today. It's loud enough to hear over the TV, and it reverberates around the room. I actually thought it was my upstairs neighbours, and the fact it's not stopped all day I was going to go up and ask them what they were doing to make the noise. But then I turned off the Sky+ box at the plug, and the noise stopped!

Anyone had any experience of this? Right now we have it in a TV stand along with the DVD and the video, I'm wondering if it's getting too warm? But the noise has been constant all day!

Sounds like its got a noisy hard drive.

I'd ring Sky and ask for a replacement.

it's the hard disk, it records around 30 minutes of any program you are watching hence always running so you can rewind, mine does it too, not very loud though Thumbs Up

Not normal, ring Sky and get a replacement.

Although they will always make a little hum because of the HDD always being active, our Sky+HD box sometimes makes a little whine.

My HD box's fan was stuck on for some reason the other day. A reboot sorted that.

Before doing anything drastic just nudge it a bit, something may just be vibrating on it (not even gonna guess what that could be.... Wink )

Sometimes the fan goes on overdrive... just pull the power and plug it back in again. I find my box does it about once a week and needs rebooting!
