...but where? Has to be within 2 days driving ideally (not including ferry time, or getting to ferry)

I always do things a little bit OTT, and spend a lot when I shouldnt.

Well, I'm super strapped for cash now. But this has just made me want to defy the odds and get out there and do something great for a few days.

As for budget, I'll budget to what I need.

Now, there's a few places I'm thinking of. I could ride or drive, but if its somewhere colder, I'd rather drive. Somewhere warmer, I'll ride.

North france isnt renowned for its amazing scenery, but are there any gems that people dont generally know about? Anywhere breathtaking?

I was thinking about popping across to Norway to see some Fjords, which would be brilliant I think, but does anyone have any advice on where? Expensive? Is there anything decent within a few days drive of UK side of Norway?

Same with France, is there anywhere that is beautiful as fuck within a day or two's drive of Calais?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to get out of the UK ideally, as we both love to be in other countries.

Thinking about late february. And it will be a suprise, I think.

So dudes, and dudettes...can anybody help? Much Karma to be dished out, Housies.

France can be really nice but you have to travel south a little.

I have loads of pictures of a forgotten area of France which is quite spectacular and especially nice on a bike but will be pretty cold in February.

I could flood the forum with pictures of fantastic places I have ridden but guess it might be more appropriate to give you al ink so you can view at your leisure www.whereistonynow.co.uk

here though are some tasters on The Limousin and Auvergne regions of France and if you are on a tight budget there are many biker B&B's around or if you need to then plenty of camping places too. If you want some help from in country then let me knwo and I would be happy to help... www.ridersrest.net

Norway is also Spectacular but expensive and you will need studded tyres in February as most roads will be iced over - good fun driving around though.

You could fly ride somewhere in the USofA the exchange rate is quite good at present.

get a ferry down to Spain and ride there it is warmer there than France in Feb.

Do one of the enduro India or Africa organised rides, bit expensive but well worth the effort.

Brilliant Links, thankyou very much!

Unfortunately, I may not have enough time/funds to do more than a few days, but looks like you have adventures galore. Must be wonderful!

On estimate, to get to somewhere like Dijon without overstretching ourselves, how long would you think?

Ah yeah. Im looking up some routes. Hmm, a day isnt bad.

I travelled 380 miles from Hull to Newquay no problems. Might be a bit annoying...we'll see. I've heard Dijon is a pretty beautiful place is all, and has some fantastic surrounding areas. You ever been? (Most probably, Im guessing! haha)

If you are after somewhere with amazing scenery, then don't forget Scotland if you've never been before! It really is amazing, although you'd miss out on the excitement of being in another country with new cultures and languages (however, when you are in the Highlands, you feel like you are a million miles away anyway!).

The only potential downside would be the weather. I'm not sure how it would fair with mid France.

Norway will be dark as fuck at that time of year.

On my recent trip to France I stayed on a camp site in the Sarth valley (one north of the Loir).

Do able from Zebrugge in a day in a transit van and very pretty. Lots of forestry and rivers.

I stayed on the municipal campsite in a town called Malicorne-sur-Sarthe which was pleasant and very cheap but it only opens on the 1st of April.

In fact, one word you will get fed up of hearing in France if you go in February is "ferme". The French are bone-idle at the best of times, in winter, don't expect anything you might want to see or do to be open.

I have been looking at Norway myself but the ferry is so expensive, you can get flights £15 return and hire a motorcycle over there which is by far the cheapest way to do it.

If anyone knows better let me know.
Good luck and ride safe

Norway is too expensive by far.

Even on fully paid expenses it looked like you were taking the p. A curry for 2 of us with 4 beers came to £90. A pint £7 and this was in 2001

Driving to Goteborg from Oslo, we seriously had nothing to eat till we passed the border. Just too expsensive by far, even with work footing the bill.

Remember 1 can of Beer being £4 in a Grocers.

Ohh and because its not in the EU, you can't bring in booze. We got stopped going in, yeah going in.

Honestly stick to the EU, but even then the £ is on par with monopoly money, so it might be best thinking of touring once the pound has risen to above €1.30 . I myself was going to Spain in Feb/March but i'm not now.

Laughing Dirty bastard.

Lets do it.

Cheers for all the advice dudes. I'll leave Norway until I'm earning a bit more or I acquire a large sum of cash.

Stinkwheel, what you suggested sounds great, and I will definately look further into that area. Thanks!

Thumbs Up Karma

But no, Matt. I will not be giving you my girlfriend as a romatic surprise for her.
