Help!

I've been to see a benefits advisor, but they can't help me unless I give them figures.

I am working full time on just less 21k.

I have requested I reduce my hours from 37 to 26.5 hours a week to acommodate my son starting school.

I appreaciate I will loose my working TAX credits, that helped with child care, but may gain some Child TAX credits.

Thew new salery is 15k. I was advised that I would not loose holiday as I'm still working a 5 day week.

However, contract has landed on my desk this afternoon and they have reduced my holiday by 7 working days. This is a HUGE problem to me as no way can I accomodate my sons holidays on this. . they have 12 weeks off a year.

I was going to buy 10 days on top of my 25 (expected days).

Anyway. . . I'm not signing it, its their damn fault for taking 4 months to return any answers.

What I would like to know is . . . which was would I be better off?

Taking this 15k salery 1uth 18 days holiday then buying about 20 days bloody expensive holiday days to cover school holidays & half tems.

OR

Requesting I work term time only. Therefore, I'd get a much lower salery, with even less holiday (but that then won't matter cos I only need to be off during 1/2 term and holidays).

Which way would I be better financially after Child TAX credits. Anyone got a clue. . I gotta get this right and have about 2 weeks.

Very fed up!

Try This site at the bottom is do i qualify and how much might i get.

As to your holidays, of coures they will have reduced them as you are now working part time hours and as such you are no entitled to the same amount of hours hoilday.

You have reduced hours by a 3rd so i guess they have reduced by the same.
Try and work it to them that you want to have your holiday entitlement in hours, thats how ours is worked so full or part time still get the same amount of days off over the year. As you take off the hours and not days.

Thanks for that. It seems I can only know based on last years earnings, which are much higher then it will be. Meaning. . . . it will be 18 months before I get much help. Making it completely impossible for me to afford the cost of life.

In other words . . 'All you single Mums (or Dads) out there, DO NOT take full time employment, because it backfires on you'!

I am going to be much worse off than I otherwise would be if I'd have worked part time from the start!

Because obviously I earnt enought o put by £200 a month to account for this. Jesus.

Then there is asshole of a Dad that bends his self employed books and pays us peanus maintenance.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr . . I feel an R6 for sale soon Crying or Very sad

I know you said you have seen a advisor, but i would try ringing hte experts
Quote:
Telephone
Tax Credits Helpline
For general information about tax credits Opening hours 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, seven days a week
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day 0845 300 3900

And see what they have to say.
You should be able to work out roughly what you new weekly/monthly rate is going to be.
Also noticed this
Quote:
Working Tax Credit is for people who are employed or self-employed (either on their own or in a partnership), who
usually work 16 hours or more a week

Now like you i thought it was 30 hours.

Again i would give the number above a call and see what they have to say.

My wife and I are seriously penalised for working full time and get nothing except family allowance.

If we reduce our hours it doesn't pay the bills and the amount of tax credits we'd get isn't comparable to the amount of money lost per month. Go figure?

Before we sort of sorted out our situation it was almost impossible to see how my wife was ever to return to work from maternity leave and still be able to pay the bills.

Don't take to much notice of the website, when I came out of work in December I did a search on there and it worked out we would get around £125 per month, when we phoned and they did the sums we ended up with around £450 a month.

Give them a rings best. Thumbs Up

Thanks everyone. It seems I'll get what I get, but may struggle for a while. . .

Its work. . . . stingey assholes. Offering my equiviant position to other 'younger', 'no more capable' people at 5k more and wont even let me keep my holiday as they had verbaly agreed.

Haha, well I didnt sign it and now I'm off for a week, when I return its Sept, which is when the contract is due to start!

I just thought 3 years of hard work would pay off, but it hasnt really. I'll call them this morning - cheers Smile

PS - you do know that if they pay you too much they will just take the money back! Ouch
