A stone or some such seems to have impacted the left hand crack case cover on my cb500 (see image below)

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/MAJBOB/DSC00349.jpg

I assume the stuff peeling is paint onto aluminium ? Basically my question is do I need todo anything ? how would I 'repair' it ? I am clueless as to how the engine is painted/protected/treated.

Many Thanks.

HI, looks like a home paint job to me that has started to peel/chip - you could get the loose stuff off then sand it gently on the edge & use touch-up paint. Certainly nothing to worry about I don`t think Thumbs Up

well you could try to take a flake of it to Halfords & find a car touch up kit with the best colour match. Or maybe something like this;

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_157655_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__varient__categoryId_102678_crumb_33958-90885-90886_parentcategoryrn_90886

or one of the silver paints like these;

https://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9253312&fh_view_size=6&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=hammersite+silver&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1219000845315&isSearch=true

Thumbs Up

could be that it's been painted with the wrong type of paint and that's why it's flaking. It doesn't look like there's any other damage than that.

Hi-temp paint would be the best but I don't think you'll find a colour-match service for it. Ordinary spray paint for metal or hammerite would be ok but won't last as long.

Doubt being a home job if its even been baked off.
or cant see from the pic but might have shit key on it.

just smooth down where the flakes are, or if you want to go at it properly, cover off nitrmorse it and start a fresh Smile
