Afternoon all!

Noob to the forum (but not to biking in general) so go easy!

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on whether there are any particularly common faults on ZX6 J1's I should be looking out for?

I've just bought a tatty (bodywork wise) example but as far as I can tell the mechanicals are fairly well sorted.

I've done a quick browse of Google and drawn a bit of a blank.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jay

Hi

The pistons seize in the 6 pot calipers, and a set of seals is not cheap.

Also they seem to have a bit of a problem with random cracks in the frame.

All the best

Keith

Cheers guys, i kinda figured the 6pots might be a pain to look after!

Still, it was cheap as chips so i'm never going to be too disappointed!

Hi Jay. What age?

As you pretty much get with most older jap machinery our harsh winters love the metal, as a result your main problems are usually common/trivial electrical corrosion faults and as others stated brakes can be particularly susceptible too.

Other than that, the Kwaks have pretty bullet proof engines, especially the pre-2000 stuff. Look after it and it will go on and on.

Thumbs Up

age? me or the bike? Laughing
the bikes a 51 plate (last big 599 before the 636)

I remember how much of a pain in the arse electrics can be after riding an NC30 through some nasty winters!

Just glad its sounding like nothing too unusual I have to look out for!

Cheers! Thumbs Up
