hi there, my mate (who also has a dtr) is planning on supermoto-ing his dt125r. He wants to relace some supermoto rims on to his orginal hubs. We were wondering, where can we get supermoto 17" rims?

many thanks. Very Happy

Have a google wheels of another 125 motard, they will be around the right sizes for a dtr swing arm, i was thinking of gilera cougar rims for a dt i had a few years back but ended up selling the bike, tdr 125 wheels might be another option worth investigating as they should be a dirrect swap.

Possibly something from the derbi or husqvarna two stroke range could work as they use a dtr engine (one of the husqvarna models is a motard any way) that way the sprockets will line up but you might need to change spacers and bearing etc to fit the dtr spindle.

haha oh no he wouldnt, Cool
also, really awkward to find lmao Laughing
thats why i thought it would be easier if i could find some 17" sm rims that would fit and just relace them to my original hubs.

When I was going to do this (didn't bother in the end) a chap off visordown.com called 'brokenlegs' would lace up the rims to my hubs for me. Was one of the cheapest I found.

If he wants to keep his original wheels for a bit of offroading I've got a set of standard (18" and 21") wheels but the spokes are knackered so would be idea to get the SM rims laced onto them. PM me if your interested.

Tbh thats why i was considering gilera cougar rims, they are a little narrower that a typical sm set up (only 130 section tyre on back) but they are nice looking flat sided alloy rims and are 17" back and front.

Pretty easy to find in breakers yard due to the rest of the bike being pretty bad at taking learner neglect and dfalling to bits, you will still have to source spokes no matter how you decide to box with it unless you just rethread and shorten the dtr spokes if they are tidy enough.

Some of the older 50cc motards are turning up in breakers now having been hammered by learners, i bought a reiju 50 sm last year for £100 for my little brother to trash around the car park at his dads pub, battered with some plastics missing but the rims wher good, got nicked out his shed a couple weeks later he was gutted so i got him a little zip 50.

Just found these they might interest you.

Gilers gsm 50 wheels in black,

On ebay item number 20047013177 for rear wheel
Item number 200247014306 for the front

They are both buy it now at £20 each, located in bishops itchington? warwickshire

they should take 100/80-17 front and 130/70-17 rear which are not much smaller than cb500 tyres (110/80-17 and 130/80-17) and tbh the dtr swing arm and forks arn't the wdest things in the world so these tyre sizes may be about right.

they should be plenty strong enough for a 125 mate you probably find some of these 50cc bikes have the same wheels on there 125 counterparts anyway, most 50 motards are about the same size as 125 bikes anyway and the rims don't look out of place on the 50 so will look good on a 125, google for a gsm 50 and take a look for yourself.

A deristricted 50sm will give about 65mph and have to deal with corneriing and breaking forces involved so have to be pretty tough they also handle the odd jump pretty well to Wink

Do you want them for looks or for perfomrance?
If it's just for the grip, not the looks then it might be worth looking at getting some road tyres in trail sizes - surprising how much grip they can give!

yeah i was looking into that, and i think im gettin soem avon distanzias for my bike soon, but my mate wants some supermoto rims i think, mostly for the looks. Personally i dont think the avon road tyres look too bad on the dt.

The wheels are off a DT125R. If you had them you would take the old rims and spokes off and then put the new ones on these hubs. Then you have your old wheels to sell with the bike or for abit of green laning.

If you get the wheels off another bike you may have a lot of faffing about trying to get them to fit. I'm not sure whether DT125X wheels fit. I think the disc may be bigger on the X so you would need to re mount the caliper or change the disc.

I have just looked at the message Brokenlegs sent. Bear in mind this was nearly a year ago so may be different now but if you were to send him your hubs they would come back with new stainless spokes and nipples and new polished morad rims 3.5f and 4.25r all laced up and ready to put tyres on. £320 but it was a year ago.

He also said the only wheels that might fit are ttr600 but even they are not a direct fit.

if it does that makes things sooo much easier because i thought only 3.00 and 3.50 x 17 fitted the dt125r.
by the way, what does the "3.50" or the "4.25" refer to?
i thought it was the width of the rim but i checked mine a min ago and it said 1.85x18 on the rear which when i measured in inches was no where near.
what measurement is it in and is it refering to the width lol?
thanks everyone.

Sounds like he was going for a 120 front 150-160 rear, which is good for most sm bikes but anyone that has fitter big nobblies (not the widest tyres around) will tell you they can hit the chain on a dt,

so im thinking a 150-160 rear will be a tad wide for a dt and to be honest would be overkill on a 26bhp bike and expensive on tyres for a 125, as those sizes are pretty up there price wise as superbike stuff and who would want to be paying around £200 a pair tyres on a 125
