Hi

A power band is an area of the rev range where everything works together to produce best power.

It is not a part.

All the best

The powerband is not a tangible object, its a certain state of engine performance.

They are either taking the mickey, or haven't noticed that someone has seriously taken the mickey out of them.

All the best

On a 2 stroke engine it is typically quite 'boggy' until it between say 7,000-11,000rpm. That sudden surge of power is called the 'powerband'.

The powerband is defined by the shape of the expansion chamber on the exhaust (the front pipe basically). Different exhausts will move the powerband around a bit, some might make nothing happen until 8500rpm then it will go mental, some will let the power come on a little earlier and finish earlier.

You don't say which kind of bike you have, but I had a Metrakit Thrower pipe on my Derbi when I was 16 and it made quite a difference.

The expansion chamber is not the only thing that governs it, 4t bikes have powerbands too.

Hi

And on a 2 stroke it is far more than just the expansion chamber. Port timings, port angles, crankcase compression, intake setup, disk valve timing / piston porting / reed valves, etc all make a massive difference.

All the best

Keith

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Is the powerband the rev range where the engine makes most power. Not sure myself.
