Hi,

My Honda XR125L won't go above 55mph. Not just slightly, it stops dead on 55. Sounds like there's plenty of power left to get it faster than that.

Got it doing 70mph going down a hill on the A21, which was fun. And it didn't fall to pieces either Wink

Is there a restriction in there, if so where? Just curious.

Alex

A21? You must be a local boy. Is that the little hill you do down between Sevenoaks and T. wells?

Sounds like it needs a service, bring it round to mine in edenbridge and i'll have a poke for you.

Hi

I would expect it to be a bit quicker than that, but not much. FRom an old copy of Trailbike Magazine sitting in my desk, the Honda XLR125 (similar engine I think):-

Quote:
On tarmac the XLR can be coaxed up to a jaw dropping 65mph given a favourable incline and prevailing wind; but 40-50mph is the norm

All the best

Did you not read the thread before you posted in it?

They're 4 stroke 125s, they're not going to go much faster.

thats why i would never own a 4 stroke 125 because they are just to dam slow. You do tend to get more problems with 2 strokes but if you look after them well then they are fine.

Get yourself an NSR! trust me a full power (23bhp) NSR will give you a nice fast ride Smile You will double your top speed and get there in half the time.

Hi

Should manage more than 55, but about 65 would be flat out (probably need you to be flat on the tank).

Give it a good service (new / cleaned air filter, plug, clean and check carb, check for leaks on the exhaust, check chain, check brakes are not dragging, etc) and see how it goes.

All the best

Keith

my mates got XR it does 80mph flat out on the motorway. It has a standard exhaust.

It should be a lot faster, and his is not restircted...

Is your choke on?!? (Thats wat he was doing for a while by accident, lol)

it should be as quick as a CG but maybe 2-3mph faster as its the 12bhp OHC motor not the 10.6bhp OHV from the CG. A CG in good nick will sit at 60mph on the flat all day, and ive had nearly 70mph out of one down a long long hill once, but 55mph uphill, 60mph on the flat, and 65mph down hill is normal to expect.

What a bollocks post. And this thread is 3 years old..

Dirty jets make a normal bike run worse. Cleaning them won't make it faster, it'll just make it run normally...

Very Happy ha ha u know what i meant u knit picking fool! if the xlr125 wont do 65-70 straight up then clean out the jets and it will as long as there isnt any other engine damage.

You wont get 70 from a xr125. i had a new one in 2004 and that did a indicated 63 mph down the dual carriageway.

blocked jets would cause a few more problems than just running slow, i would clean the air filter, de coke the exhaust and fit a new plug. Then i would check the brakes and chain ect.

You will be able to see 80mph off the speedo given a long steep hill (yes i have done it myself), the engine doesnt sound very good though so i wouldnt advise doing it too often.

Cruising at an indicated 70mph is do-able given a long enough bit of flat motorway and no winds, again been there done that, just be warned overtaking anything big is not easy due to the amount of wind they blow out to the sides.
