Just thought I'd share a few photographs from my first week with my 1150gsa.
Took the bike up to the highlands for a play based around Skye.
Brief outline, 5days, 3000 miles, two drops, one puncture and 50 insect bites!

Couple of taster photos, the rest on my flickr.

Good pics, its looks quite dry in most of them? I have been putting off going up to scotland camping the last few days as its been really heavy rain here. Might go on monday now if the weathers not to bad.

How come you were recovered for a puncture? Was it beyond plugging/repair?

I got very wet each day I was up there unfortunately.
AA apparently wont fix a puncture at the side of the road, so when they eventually got to me (7-8 hours after calling them) and got me to the local bike garage it was 9pm. Luckily they guy opened up his shop there and then, fixed the tyre and fitted a tube to be sure and it only cost me 35quid.

Puncture repair kits are only a couple of quid so you ought to keep one on you, won't hold forever but should do for temporary repair until you can hobble to a tyre fitter for a proper plug. Need to carry a pump or a CO2 cartridge too.

Why'd you drop it 3 times? Weight just caught you out or binned it?

Went over twice, first time put my foot on gravel, second time lost concentration and the bike leaned too far so there was no getting it back because of its weight.

BIke is quite good, did 11 hours on it one day in appalling weather and got up the next morning and right back on it without any aches or pains.
Mine has done 58k and I think the front shock may be a little tired so its handling isn't quit right, but that may also be me coming from a sports bike and I need to get used to it.
I'm also looking for a slightly larger screen to reduce windblast, but I am 6'2.

It takes a while to get used to the height/weight. I had the same when I went to the Tiger from the ZX9 - dropped it on the first ride putting my feet down on soft ground. It gets past the balancing point quickly and theres nowt you can do other than try and lay it down as gently as possible.

In the end, whilst I never dropped it again, I never did get all that used to it as slow speed and manouvering. Wouldnt mind a simlar bike, but the height puts me off (and I'm 6ft). Maybe the 800GS....

excellent pics and the bike looks nice and tidy for that mileage. Does the massive fuel tank arse up the centre of gravity?? or is it as well displaced as you imagine a beemer to be?

I was toying with getting a similar bike, but I'm still undecided. I hired a Transalp recently whilst on holiday and yeah, coming from only riding sports bikes, even that felt a bit awkward at low speeds I thought. I suppose I'd get used to it though. It didnt help having a pillion and a full top box right enough! lol

Lovely pics, can't wait until I finish work on Friday now, as I am spending 3 days travelling up the west side of Scotland and onto Skye. I am only planning on doing about 1100 miles over 3 days though.

Just cos it's not great doesn't mean you don't want to give it a shot, for shits and giggles if nothing else. Given it's size and weight, I'd feel I'd achieved something if I managed to ride it round a field without binning. But then, I can't even get the hulk off the sidestand so that won't be happening in a hurry. Laughing

Laughing Understandable. In theory there's a technique to lifting 'em but I imagine a broken back is typically involved.
