Anyone ever sold their property privately before?
Plan to stick up a few local ad's in the paper and signs in the windows.
Do I just get hold of a solicitor and pay them? How much would I be looking at? I'm guessing it would probably be a fixed fee?

I've have sold privately but had a buyer from the start so didn't have any of the fuss of advertising it.
You won't have to have one of those Home Information Packs done as that's only a requirement for properties being sold through agents. The conveyancing process involving solicitors is exactly the same if you sell privately or if you see through an agent.
How much will you be looking at, call around solicitors local to you and see what their rates are. You'll pay more for it to be done by proper solicitors than you will if you go to a conveyancing company, however solicitors are generally (slightly) less incompetent which could mean the different between a sale going through and a sale falling apart. Approximately £500, give or take a bit.
There are various advertising sites like House Ladder which list properties being sold privately, some of those list on the big directory sites Rightmove.co.uk which I'd say would increase your chance of getting a buyer, local papers and signs in your windows have quite a limited number of viewers. If your property is on rightmove and some of the other big sites then it'll be seen by people who're looking for a house in that area. |
