See new post below

Mainly in comparison to the 600.

I loved my 600, But I fancy upping the standards for an extra £30 insurance money.

there doesn't seem to be much price difference between them.

Obviously I know what to look for in them, the seat will be torn, the downpipes should have been replaced if it's done a lot of miles etc etc.

But how do they compare to the 600s? Heavier by much? Tank range differernt?

Performance? 0-60 I'd expect a second off maybe, and another 20mph top speed? Torque is important to me, I like being able to have a passenger holding 2 crates of beer.

Wheelies off the power? The 600 definatly doesn't.

Cheers

Chalk and cheese, 600 is rev happy 1200 is all grunt, much faster in acceleration and straight line depends on the rider when it gets twistier. 12 is about 20kgs heavier, not a great deal of difference in mpg as you have to thrash to 6 to get what the 12 ambles up to but you will notice a difference if you really use the revs. 12 is the original hooligan/wheelie bike, easy to tune for power, and you'd never match even a standard one if you tuned the bollocks off a 6.
Choice is yours but it does everything you are hoping it will, I would disagree on your idea of pricing though, a 12 is usually a fair bit more than a similar age 6 which don't seem to hold up well on price.

There is not much difference weight wise between the two but the difference in power delivery is massive, you will have to keep the throttle in check untill you get uesd to the bike, thrashing it the same way as the 600 will leave you on the back wheel most of the time.

I followed a freind back home on his when he picked up his new bike, I ride a cb1 400 everyday and have ridden a bandit 6 for a few months before and i have no shame in telling you i crapped myself when i opened the 1200 up.

Hi

We have a 600 and a 1200 Bandit. They are quite different bikes. The 600 is far revvier, which can be fun, the Bandit far more flexable which can be more relaxing. Tank ranges are about the same.

Both share the quick seize rear caliper.

Both have stainless exhausts except for a short section under the engine.

Frames are slightly different. Suspension dog bones are slightly different (you can lower a 600 slightly by using 1200 dog bones, presume you can raise the back fo a 1200 by using 600 dog bones. 1200 is a claimed 12~15kg heavier. 1200 has pretty decent front brakes.

1200 can be very easily tuned. One of the few bikes where a change of can makes a big difference.

All the best

Keith

I used to have a 6, my old man has a 12.

As has been said before, the 12 has a LOT more grunt, and after the 6 will feel lazy in comparison.

Ridiculously easy to wheelie, nice, steady, predictable linear power delivery. The S version with a decent seat would be a great distance machine.

I'd quite like a downgeared early N.

I also really like the look of FJ1200s. What are these like, the old 86-94 ones?

Are they still as flickable in the corners, or is it more of a big turn in?

Are they comfortable, and would it be silly speeds for my one years biking experience.

Cheers

No they are lardy touring brutes that chew-up consumables at a terrific rate if you're ambitious with the throttle. If you're torn between the two get the bandit.

Ah cheers everyone.

Turns out theres a zxr750 near to me which I can get insured on for about the same as a bandit 12, so I think I'm gonna go for that.
