I've been thinking about this bike after my A2 so first of all would it be legal to have one and also is it worth the money and the hassle? or should i go with my original choice of an SV/J1 ZX6?

Help much appreciated Thumbs Up

If you did your A2 it would be only legal if you restricted it to 33bhp and there's no point of that.

A ZX6 would take restriction better than an RS250.

Think they make about 60bhp?
Awesome to ride, very sexy, but pretty fragile and not good on fuel either.
I would love one, but i had an rs125 and that was enough trouble for me.

It would be a silly choice for a first bike. You need too much money and experience if you want to keep it on the road.
Go for the SV.

Ive only really ridden the 250 once, but it felt like i imagine a race bike would feel. All unforgiving and peaky, but it steered by thought input alone (at least it felt like it did) and stopped like it had hit a brick wall.

i had one when i got my learners at 15 (gotta love nz motorcycle laws) its was friggin fast, too fast really for a gun ho 15 year old,
id buy another one or the rgv if i got the chance now.

i dont know how much luck you would have restricting it...
they were pritty hard bikes to ride with out stealing half the rev range in restriction,

just get yourself a wholesome 4 stroke, a big old single dirtbike would be the best Very Happy

My RS250 was at 37hp for a while and I thought it was fine (actually, more fun that at full power, but I prefer lower power).
I personally found the RS pretty easy to ride; keep in the power band etc. Only bike I ever really found could be a bit of a hard time getting right was a tuned race KR1S and I think half of that was the powervalves not working quite right.

However, the RS250 is certainly harder to ride day to day than a ZX6J or SV, etc; it does require more attention, is a harsher riding position and needs longer to warm up.

I wouldn't choose one for an 'only' bike; however I would suggest one as a bike to learn to make the most out of bikes in general on twisty back roads, etc. You have to pay attention, but it rewards when you do.

By the way, see my profile for a list of bikes I've owned.

So i guess it's better as a second bike in the future maybe. Plus it probably won't like the congested roads around here in London.

Just saw your profile and you've owned all the bikes i'm talking about and not only once! Shocked Laughing

always good to look at, and does show whats possible on an rs250, even if its not recommended

sorry rac3r, but a RS250 from a CBR125 is so much of a leap that it may as well be your first bike.
