Personally I think it's a bit different.

For example you don't really have to do anything for certain black patch members to get intimidating, whereas one of the phone bomb victims was talking about raping someones sister etc.

That said I think it's far more intelligent to do something hilarious on the phone than just shout that your gonna pull his legs off.

Given how easily such text abuse could be traced and the consequences of it you could argue it is very brave to do it .

Talking about it is as brave as talking about kicking Mike Tyson between the legs. It is just e-bragging.
