I work abroad, and TBH it isn't that much cheaper if at all for booze, especially by the time you've bought your ferry/ tunnel ticket, paid for fuel etc. You're better of going to your local supermarket.

Fags are still generally cheaper. The drivers at work with say Luxembourg is the cheapest, but that is quite a drive from Calais, so the fuel costs etc aren't worth it. Plus the road is a pain in the arse, the Brussles Ring Road is their equivalent M25, but worse!

But if you're just wanting to do it for the day out, then why not? To do it regularly though you won't be saving, if anything you'll be spending more.

There is a maximum you can bring back, yes. I'm not sure how much that is, but a few of the guys I work with have got caught with too much and had it all confiscated by Customs, along with company vehicles! So if you don't take the piss (i.e car weighed down so wheels are rubbing arches or hundreds of packs of tobacco) you should be alright.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at this site, which might be useful.

Although the limit for fags - which is supposedly "reasonable amount for personal use" is quite high - I think its something like 3,200 fags (so thats 160 cartons of 200) per person. Obviously you'd be wanting to get all the same brand of fags, else customs is likely to suspect you're up to mischief if you were buying 400 of this, 800 of that, 1200 of something else, and a couple of cartons of pouches of tobacco Laughing

We went to Adinkerke on the bikes a couple of years ago, got the ferry to Calais and rode over the border, its not that far, maybe a 40 minute ride - a very very flat straight ride across the plain of Flanders. Obviously we only bought fags, not booze, but we got plenty in our top boxes "for personal use". If you were to go with a car, you could pick up more.

The UK price of petrol might put the cost of your trip up, though Sad dunno what its like over there at the moment, but it was always cheaper than here. (Mind out for the blaggers at the petrol stations, even if they are English!)

Petrol isn't cheaper anymore, in fact with the current euro/£ exchange rate it probably costs more than here.

There are no limits on the amount of alcohol and tobacco you can bring back from EU states anymore, but our criminal C&E illegally continue to impose restrictions. That's because they are scum and a law unto themselves. They illegally confiscate goods and vehicles, and our nazi govt does not a thing about it.
