https://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/08/27/new_waterproofing_technology_pioneered_by_uk_firm/
In an old thread I mentioned a water proofing process which was restricted to military tech so far,
I'd seen it in action where they got a tangerine net erm you know those red nets tangerines come in but with slightly smaller holds, treated with this and poured water onto it and no water leaked out .
It has now been released onto civvie street , unfortunately only for the shoe maker Hi Tec...
Claims - breathable , and much more repellant to water,
Will we one day be able to claim biker water proofs that are actually waterproof?...
note Goretex is reputed to be waterproof but according to BMW man it steadily becomes less effective , and yes this is breathable...
I do like the el reg comment though in that you could have joke towels covered with this plasma coating imagine that. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Get some of this mate
https://www.millets.co.uk/SearchList.aspx?q=nikwax
Works a treat, just use it instead of detergent in the washing machine.
The reason why motorbike waterproofs aren't waterproof is because of the fact they a) dont have to be totally waterproof, just upto a certain pressure (1000 millimetres of water (9.8 kPa) pressure without leaking is that means anything to you) and b) because the rain is hitting the waterproof membrane at 60+mph it gets a little help in breaching the layer of waterproofing.
What i always do is make sure I have a gore-tex jacket under my armour jacket or leathers, so there is always 2 layers to breach, which is alot harder (almost impossible in my experiance) Another thing I have noticed with gore-tex is that sometimes the gore-tex dosen't leak, it just gets very cold and so feels wet.
Ex-army kit has normally had the original waterproofing washed out when they make it fit for re-sale, and the only way to re-proof them is to use something like nikwax, but nikwax dosen't last as long as the original proofing[/url] ____________________ Current bike is kawasaki ZR7 - Previous is CBR 125 (40,000 long long miles).
