They are good if heavy and slow. Fine looking, sweet handling. They work best if they haven't been stood for a time, because this dries out the cam belts. Cam belts need to be done on yearly schedule rather than mileage.

Ideal introduction back into biking I'd say. Not fast and scary, but stable, good handling and good looking.

I doubt it will be comfy though.

Garth has one I think as a track bike. They race them in the Desmodue series.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Hi

I've a 600 Monster DD bike (same engine, slightly different gear ratios) and a 900SSie.

Belts are every 2 years or 12,000 miles. About £40 and eay to do. Mine has an open airbox and full system jetted to suit. Nice induction noise at 5k.

Can't really comment on performance of a standard one, think mine is putting out about 52bhp at the wheel. Standing 1/4mile is 13.4@97mph.

Can't really comment on handling etc, as never ridden a carby SS. My 900 is stable and sure footed, very confidence inspiring. The monster has a K tech revalved 748 front end and Ohlins shock so not relevant either.

Makes quite alot of sense on the road.

I like mine!

The electrics on pre 95 models aren't as good (allegedly) as the later models. Don't expect the raw power to rip your arms off either, but the handling will have you grinning in your lid.

A lot.

Thumbs Up
