Spell check and then proof read your letter!!! Offence, conversation, sign are the words you need. Wink

Not really sure you'll get very far with that letter, to me it just reads as a written confession that you did drop the cigarette butts. Is your complaint that you were given the tickets in the first place or that you were upset about the tone of voice she used when she told you there's no where on the form for you to sign? Confused

I presume you have set the letter out properly and that's just the main body text of the letter?

can I just ask who caught you? do they have task forces on streets there that catch people?

ps Yes I heard of people in England being fined but its just a threat here no one actually gets caught as no one has the job to catch them.

Dropping cigarette butts just makes it more of a dump though.

I;d start counting out that £100 now if you;ve already sent that letter off.

As already stated, the spelling and layout of the letter do you no favours, but I guess this isnt an engllish essay waiting to be marked.

You confess to dropping litter, and also state that you only went to retrieve it because you didnt realise the consequences, hence, you would have happily left it there otherwise. To be honest, if someone said to you "I only dropped litter because I was having a serious conversation", how would it sound to you?

True, arseholes all the same, but then I wouldnt have given them my details, and if need be ran away very qucikly. If they made any physical contact in an attempt to stop me, I would have nutted the tart and claimed self defence as "I thought she were trying to mug me your honour" Razz Ok that might not work, but bottom line is I wouldnt have accepted any fine, given any details or anything.

Instead of "My reason for the doing of this offense was.. " it might sound better as "The mitigating circumstances were.."

You have a few spelling errors; "convosation" should be "conversation"; "sigh" should be "sign".

Also, you might want to expand more on your regret on the 'offence' and how it's very unlike you (and mention that you often pick up litter from others too, that you're otherwise a very law-abidey person, that sort of thing..) and maybe reduce the bit about her tone, and make it sound less indignant and more surprised that she spoke to you in that manner. My thinking on that is that her tone doesn't have much to do with the offence as such, so it probably won't help your case much.

Sorry to hear you got nabbed for it in the first place, good luck wiht the appeal. But it's good to know that the police are busy pursuing smokers for leaving cigarette butts on the ground than doing anything useful like catching real criminals...eh... Rolling Eyes

Me neither.

But I always make sure I flick my tab ends into a river, drain, open car window, teenagers hood, etc anyway... Twisted Evil

Don't want to sound to harsh but I would just pay the hundred quid and put it down to experience. I don't think that letter will help anything (though correcting the spelling will improve it slightly) and they will just send you a generic "sorry you thought are staff were rude but you still have to pay" letter.

Surely you have to put the butt onto the ground and stamp it out, or do they expect you to put a burning fag-end in your pocket? As has been said previously the best course of action is to either give a false name, or just tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.

No, they want you to find a bin (which most councils sneakily reduce the number of, so they can optimise these thieving fines) and set fire to that. Thumbs Up

Why not pay the fine and stop throwing your cigarette ends on the ground?

And put them where though? Since the erosion of liberties via the smoking ban there is little choice where to put them when not in your own home.

Once the gobment fit street ashtrays, then I will put mine there and happily pay a fine to fund them if I were to ignore them and drop the ends instead.

I disagree. Now that the smokers have been forced outside the ugly metal wall-mounted ashtrays are springing up all over the place, outside pubs, shops, offices etc.

If he was right outside the college I can't imagine it would be a huge trek to find one.

Yep, theres one of those monstrosities outside my work. And it's always overflowing, since you can only fit about 6 tab ends in it.

Retarted thing is, before the ban, there were two perfectly good smoking rooms in the building. Well ventilated, no thoroughfare that non-smokers had to go through. But noooo, now theres always a massive crowd of smokers forced outside the sites gates blocking the pavement.

I have a little dignity, so I always take a walk to smoke.

Well if you attempt to stub out into a full ashtray and your butt falls out (fnar) they can't reasonably fine you for just tossing the thing away can they? Wink

I have some sympathy for the amount of money involved but no sympathy at all for the OP for actually getting fined, there are too many people think they can just chuck their crap (including but not limited to fag butts) anywhere they fancy. Evil or Very Mad Nice to see someone somewhere is doing something about it.........

In the bin, like all rubbish. Stub it out wait til it's not smouldering hot so you don't cause a bin fire and then chuck it. And to be honest there's cigarette bins everywhere, even most bins have them built in, really is no excuse that you can't find one. And even if there's not one outside there is usually one inside the building.
